David Mamet: Why I Am No Longer A "Brain-Dead Liberal"

http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0811,374064,374064,1.html/full"

David Mamet is a somewhat famous American author, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, and film director who has been nominated for Tonys and Oscars for various plays and scripts. In an election season essay Mamet describes his recent journey to discovering that the underlying assumptions that made him liberal for so much of his life were in fact wrong. Interestingly, it was his rabbi and others who convinced him to have an open-mind that brought Mamet to his new conclusions. The man is a great writer, and hence the piece is eloquent. It is somewhat lengthy, but still worth a read. Will this effect his career in left-leaning Hollywood and Broadway? I hope not. And seeing that he has been in the business for so long you would think it would not. Though I can imagine the piece might ruffle a few feathers among his colleagues in entertainment.
