Let us put aside Chris "Obama Causes A Tingle Up My Leg" Mathews introduction to McCain's comments aside. McCain said that he "will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, that will eliminate our dependece on oil from the Middle East, that will then prevent us...from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict into the Middle East." You can watch the MSNBC's anti-McCain coverage about this comment. Anyone who knows anything about Middle East foreign policy knows that if we reduce the amount of dependence of oil from the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, we will be a lot less beholden to Arab influence. How can honestly speaking about reducing dependence on Arab oil be counted against McCain? Some may say he implied that we have gone to war in Iraq for oil. But anyone that has followed McCain's career, as well as his speeches on the Iraq war, knows full well that he never advocated war for oil. Look at your gas prices, people. The prices have not gone down! We have not been fighting a war for territorial conquest or economic plunder. That is what Saddam did when he invaded Kuwait! The U.S. is not a Baathist country! McCain is voicing his realization that in order to have a sane policy in regards to the Middle East the dependence on oil issue needs to be dealt with. We should be applauding him for speaking the truth.
