Op-Eds: Lieberman Vs. Biden

Politics certainly no longer ends at the water's edge. Read Sen. Joe Lieberman's Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121132806884008847.html?mod=Commentary-US This piece by Liebs is a must-read, describing how today's Democrats are not the party he grew up in and how the party has been making a hard leftist blame America turn in foreign affairs.

In response to this article Sen. Joe Biden wrote a reply, which in my opinion underscores the night and day difference between those that understand the nature of the Islamofascist enemy and those who do not: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121150000249615875.html Allow me to focus on one example that only reinforces the point Lieberman was making about today's leading Dems. Biden writes that "Bush has turned a small number of radical groups that hate America into a 10-foot tall existential monster that dictates every move we make...[T]o compare terrorism with an all-encompassing ideology like communism and fascism is evidence of profound confusion." As Biden himself points out in the next paragraph, terrorism is a tactic, not an ideology. What Biden foolishly fails to realize, or is profoundly confused by, is that the comparisons are between Islamofascist Jihadism and those evils of the past. He blames Bush for inflating a threat when the threat is clear and present and hit our shores on 9-11. Further, those that adhere to Bin-Ladenist Salafism are not merely small numbers of radicals, but multitudes in the Middle East and elsewhere that take the form of terror groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Al-Qaeda, etc., and state-terrorists such as Iran. The very same Iran, by the way, whom Biden says we should be talking to unconditionally. The article portrays exactly the mindset that Lieberman was talking about. If I had to respond to every ignorant statement in that article I would be writing until I was blue in the face.
