Los Angeles Blocks New Fast-Food Restaurants In Poor Areas

The AP reports that the city council of Los Angeles has unanimously approved Tuesday a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city. It is interesting to point out that South L.A., where the ban is taking effect, is largely composed of minorities. This measure taken by the City Council specifically targets poor minorities. It is government infantilizing their constituents. This is complete utter nonsense. How does the City Council believe it is any of their business to regulate how many restaurants there are in any neighborhood? Does the City Council believe poor minorities are too stupid to make their own decisions as to what they eat? It is not the role of city government to regulate their constituents eating patterns or ban new fast food chains. This is paternalistic government taken to extremes. This delusional Daddy day care government has crossed the line. It is liberal nanny state nonsense. Why does the City Council believe they should end their little crusade against poor fat minorities with this? What is to stop them from banning fast-food restaurants in these communities or any other part of the city all together? What is to stop them from banning something like ice cream at the grocery store? The City Council should deal with real problems that L.A. faces not where poor Angelenos want to eat.
