The AP reports that "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Friday he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that's what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources." Obama has been very strongy opposed to offshore drilling of any kind from the beginning. He has said drilling would "merely prolong ..failed energy policies" and "drilling is not a solution" as it would have "long term consequences on our coast lines." He has talked about people inflating their tires. It is so obvious that he has finally realized that the Republicans are stronger on this issue and that Americans overwhelmingly support drilling. Let me just give you some examples of the rhetoric Obama has been using on drilling up until now:
It is obvious that this is politically motivated flip-flop. He may be a shrewd politician for flipping so that he can get on the right side of a popular issue, but he is certainly not a trustworthy one.
