Bob Dole On Scott McClellan No Holds Barred

Bob Dole had this to say in an extraordinary message obtained and authenticated by Politico:

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don’t have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues. No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique. ...In my nearly 36 years of public service I've known of a few like you," Dole writes, recounting his years representing Kansas in the House and Senate. "No doubt you will 'clean up' as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm. When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me.' Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years."

Dole assures McClellan that he won't read the book -- "because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job"

"That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively," Dole concludes. "You’re a hot ticket now but don’t you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"

Kerry: On Sept. 11 We Were at Peace

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically at peace." Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time." I guess we were "basically at peace" on December 7, 1941 as well. This is such an idiotic statement and I don't think I actually need to spell out why. Rock for brains, that's all I need to say.

CIA Cites Big Gains Against Al-Qaeda

"On balance, we are doing pretty well. Near strategic defeat of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Near strategic defeat for al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia. Significant setbacks for al-Qaeda globally -- and here I'm going to use the word 'ideologically' -- as a lot of the Islamic world pushes back on their form of Islam," CIA Director Michael V. Hayden said. The Washington Post reports that Hayden says Osama bin Laden is losing the battle for hearts and minds in the Islamic world and has largely forfeited its ability to exploit the Iraq war to recruit adherents. This is a turnaround from the CIA assessment two years ago which claime Iraq had become a "cause celebre" for Al-Qaeda. Hayden portrays AL-Qaeda as essentially defeated in Iraq and Saudi Arabia and on the defensive throughout much of the rest of the world, including in its presumed haven along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. "On balance, we are doing pretty well," he said, ticking down a list of accomplishments: "Near strategic defeat of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Near strategic defeat for al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia. Significant setbacks for al-Qaeda globally -- and here I'm going to use the word 'ideologically' -- as a lot of the Islamic world pushes back on their form of Islam," he said. Since the start of the year, he said, al-Qaeda's global leadership has lost three senior officers, including two who succumbed "to violence," an apparent reference to Predator strikes that killed terrorist leaders Abu Laith al-Libi and Abu Sulayman al-Jazairi in Pakistan. He also cited a successful blow against "training activity" in the region but offered no details. "Those are the kinds of things that delay and disrupt al-Qaeda's planning," Hayden said.

Hayden warned, however, that progress in Iraq is being undermined by increasing interference by Iran, which he accused of supplying weapons, training and financial assistance to anti-U.S. insurgents. While declining to endorse any particular strategy for dealing with Iran, he described the threat in stark terms. "It is the policy of the Iranian government, approved at the highest levels of that government, to facilitate the killing of American and other coalition forces in Iraq. Period," he said. Tweet

Obama "Disappointed" With Pfleger

Obama said this in response to videos of Father Pfleger speaking at his church: “As I have traveled this country, I’ve been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us. That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger’s divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn’t reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause." Is it not odd that after decades his spiritual mentors are suddenly disappointing and surprising him with their rhetoric? Iranian Documents Show Work On The Bomb In 2004

The following is from the AP: "A ranking International Atomic Energy Agency official called Tehran’s possession of a drawing showing how to make part of an atomic warhead 'alarming' Thursday and said the onus is on Iran to prove it had not tried to develop nuclear arms, said diplomats attending a closed briefing...The documents, outlined in an IAEA report forwarded Monday to the U.N. Security Council and agency board members, are part of evidence provided by board member nations to the agency for its investigation into allegations that Iran used the cover of peaceful nuclear activities to conduct research and testing on a nuclear arms program. One, dated January-February 2004 is linked to high explosives testing of the kind that can be used to detonate a nuclear device. Others, dated into January 2004 - and one as late as March 14 of that year - are part of purported evidence that Iran worked on designs of a missile re-entry vehicle that is normally a part of a nuclear delivery system."

These documents are far more than just "alarming." This is evidence of a mounting threat that cannot be ignored. Demanding answers from Iran is futile. There will come a time when it will become inevitable and Iran will have to be confronted. These documents have absolutely no use in a civilian nuclear energy program. Furthermore, the U.S. intelligence community needs to answer some questions about the most recent National Intelligence Estimate that claimed Iran suspended its nuclear program in 2003. These IAEA documents seem to directly contradict the joint assessment of the entire U.S. intelligence community. Tweet

Obama Advisor: If Barack Goes To Iraq, It's To Plan Withdrawal

Barack Obama has recently been criticized for not having met with commanders in Iraq while at the same time offering to meet unconditionally with the heads of rogue terrorist regimes. It comes as no surprise that Obama only now says he is considering making a trip to Iraq this summer. In fact, John McCain has offered, as a sign or bipartisanship, to go to Iraq with Obama. Obama has said this would be a political stunt." Spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement from the campaign saying that "John McCain’s proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don’t need any more ‘Mission Accomplished’ banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq’s leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge." Would it not be a show of bipartisanship and support for the troops if Obama could put aside his differences with McCain to make a joint trip to meet with commanders and soldiers? Is this the kind of unity and change that Obama plans to bring to Washington? He is possibly willing to do a solo photo op in Iraq after pressure from the McCain camp, but not willing to go on a join trip with McCain?

Furthermore, an Obama advisor explained that if he were to go to Iraq it would be only for the purpose of planning a withdrawal. He has no interest in listening to whether the commanders on the ground think the progress in Iraq has been sufficient enough to suggest that victory is possible.

Pew Research Shows Liberal Media Bias

The Research study reveals that Obama and Clinton have gotten positive treatment in the media over two-thirds of the time, while the majority of McCain’s coverage was negative. The study says that fully 57% of the narratives studied about McCain were critical in nature. Meanwhile, 69% of the narratives on Obama have been positive, while 67% have been positive on Clinton. Miami Becoming A Spanish Speaking City

This is from the Associated Press: "In many areas of Miami, Spanish has become the predominant language, replacing English in everyday life. Anyone from Latin America could feel at home on the streets, without having to pronounce a single word in English. In stores, shopkeepers wait on their clients in Spanish. Universities offer programs for Spanish speakers. And in supermarkets, banks, restaurants - even at the post office and government offices - information is given and assistance is offered in Spanish. In Miami, doctors and nurses speak Spanish with their patients and a large portion of advertising is in Spanish. Daily newspapers and radio and television stations cater to the Hispanic public. In the 1950s, it's estimated that more than 80 percent of Miami-Dade County residents were non-Hispanic whites. But in 2006, the Census Bureau estimates that number was only 18.5 percent, and in 2015 it is forecast to be 14 percent. Hispanics now make up about 60 percent. "The Anglo population is leaving," said Juan Clark, a sociology professor at Miami Dade College. "One of the reactions is to emigrate toward the north. They resent the fact that (an American) has to learn Spanish in order to have advantages to work. If one doesn't speak Spanish, it's a disadvantage." According to the Census, 58.5 percent of the county's 2.4 million residents speak Spanish - and half of those say they don't speak English well. English-only speakers make up 27.2 percent of the county's residents...James McCleary, his wife and two children left Miami in 1987 for Vermont, where he is now a farmer. McCleary, 58, said his inability to speak Spanish made it difficult for him to find work - it once took seven months to get hired as a cook...Librarian Martha Phillips, 61, believes those who speak Spanish will continue to have more opportunities and she doesn't think that's necessarily fair. Phillips said she is sorry to see non-Spanish-speakers abandoning Miami, and said she's concerned that the area "will be like a branch of Latin America." "I do resent the fact that people seem to expect that the people who live here adjust to their ways, rather than learning English and making adjustments," she said. "Obviously I don't expect an older person to learn to speak English, but younger people come in and they don't seem to make much of an effort to learn to adapt to this country and they expect us to adapt to them."

Obama identified Pfleger in a 2004 interview with the Chicago Sun-Times as a key source of spiritual guidance. Pfleger, who practices black liberation theology, is a regular guest speaker at Obama's Trinity church. He was introduced at Sunday's sermon by Obama's new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss III. Pfleger is a regular guest lecturer at Trinity and has been featured a number of times in Wright's Trumpet magazine, which honored Louis Farrakhan. This is the same magazine that Obama gave an exclusive interview to. Obama has also appeared on the cover on a number of occasions. Obama has said in media interviews he will retain his membership in Trinity under Moss, whom he lauded as a "wonderful young pastor." Sane Americans need to know the kind of people and the kind of church that Obama continues to associate with and has been intimately connected with for 20 years. Scott McClellan In His Own Words

Scott McClellan's scathing book against the Bush administration is creating a firestorm. Interestingly, McClellan as Press Secretary sharply criticized those that do what he himself has now just done. First, on January 12, 2004 McClellan responded to Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill's "The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul O'Neill," by saying this about the former Treasury head: "It appears to be more about trying to justify personal views and opinions than it does about looking at the results that we are achieving on behalf of the American people."

But wait, it gets even better. This next quote is golden. In response to former Bush White House counter-terrorism czar Richard Clarke's "Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror," McClellan had this exchange with a reporter on March 22, 2004:

"McCLELLAN: WELL, WHY, ALL OF A SUDDEN, IF HE HAD ALL THESE GRAVE CONCERNS, DID HE NOT RAISE THESE SOONER? This is one-and-a-half years after he left the administration. AND NOW, ALL OF A SUDDEN, HE'S RAISING THESE GRAVE CONCERNS THAT HE CLAIMS HE HAD. And I think you have to look at some of the facts. One, he is bringing this up in the heat of a presidential campaign. HE HAS WRITTEN A BOOK AND HE CERTAINLY WANTS TO GO OUT THERE AND PROMOTE THAT BOOK. Certainly let's look at the politics of it. His best buddy is Rand Beers, who is the principal foreign policy advisor to Senator Kerry's campaign. The Kerry campaign went out and immediately put these comments up on their website that Mr. Clarke made. ...

Q: Scott, the whole point of his book is he says that he did raise these concerns and he was not listened to by his superiors.

McCLELLAN: Yes, and that's just flat-out wrong. …When someone uses such charged rhetoric that is just not matched by the facts, it's important that we set the record straight. And that's what we're doing. IF YOU LOOK BACK AT HIS PAST COMMENTS AND HIS PAST ACTIONS, THEY CONTRADICT HIS CURRENT RHETORIC. I talked to you all a little bit about that earlier today. Go back and look at exactly what he has said in the past and compare that with what he is saying today."

McCain Rips Obama A New Hole

McCain hammers away at Obama's having not visited Iraq in 2 years and never having met with General Petraeus. He points out that Obama has no compulsion to meet with our leaders on the ground in Iraq, but has promised meetings without preconditions with the Holocaust denier of Iran. McCain has even offered to go with Obama to Iraq to meet with the generals and soldiers and hear what they have to say on the succeses in Iraq. Obama will now end up having to go to Iraq and meet with Petraeus to defuse this criticism.

Biden writes that "Bush has turned a small number of radical groups that hate America into a 10-foot tall existential monster that dictates every move we make...[T]o compare terrorism with an all-encompassing ideology like communism and fascism is evidence of profound confusion." As Biden himself points out in the next paragraph, terrorism is a tactic, not an ideology. What Biden foolishly fails to realize, or is profoundly confused by, is that the comparisons are between Islamofascist Jihadism and those evils of the past. He blames Bush for inflating a threat when the threat is clear and present and hit our shores on 9-11. Further, those that adhere to Bin-Ladenist Salafism are not merely small numbers of radicals, but multitudes in the Middle East and elsewhere that take the form of terror groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Al-Qaeda, etc., and state-terrorists such as Iran. The very same Iran, by the way, whom Biden says we should be talking to unconditionally. The article portrays exactly the mindset that Lieberman was talking about. Czech President Challenges Al Gore To Debate

Czech President Vaclav Klaus has challenged Al Gore to a debate about global warming. Klaus has just had his book on the matter translated into English. It is entitled "Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?" He said at the National Press Club that "it could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda." Will Gore accept? Not a chance in the whole warming world. Tweet

Scott McClellan's Book And The Response

Scott McClellan was President Bush's Press Secretary for almost three years from 2003 to 2006. His new book titled "What Happened" derides the "culture of deception." The book has already roared to Amazon's #1 bestseller. He claims that Bush was using "propaganda" to sell the war, that Rove and Libby had "misled" him about their role in the Valerie Plame issue, and more. If Bush was selling propaganda to the American people, then does that not make McClellan his chief propagandist?

Rove hit back on Tuesday night responding to the former propaganda master on Fox News. Rove sounds pretty convincing in refuting McClellan's claims of secret meetings with Libby which McClellan pyschically determined were about Plame. He said that “this doesn’t sound like Scott. It really doesn’t. Not the Scott McClellan I’ve known for a long time. Second of all, it sounds like somebody else. It sounds like a left-wing blogger. If he had these moral qualms, he should have spoken up about them.” Former White House counselor Dan Bartlett said the book was "total crap," saying that he is "bewildered and puzzled" by "Scott's decision to publicly air these deep misgivings he's never shared privately or publicly" with Bush insiders. "To do it now, through a book, is a mistake," he added. The current Press Secretary Dana Perino said "it is sad. This is not the Scott we knew.”

But all this begs the obvious question that McClellan should answer (which Hannity in fact asks at the end of the Rove interview): If he felt there was so much corruption in the Bush White House, why did he remain Press Secretary for almost three years in a role that required him to be the defender of what he considered to be a corrupt and deceptive administration? Was it the government salary? In truth, there are only two possible reasons. One is that he is cleansing his soul by finally coming out with the truth. Another is that he wants to sell books and controversy does that well. But either way, we need to seriously wonder why McClellan worked for Bush and his advisors for three years as their mouthpiece before coming out with this self-righteous mea culpa. He writes in the book that “history appears poised to confirm what most Americans today have decided: that the decision to invade Iraq was a serious strategic blunder...What I do know is that war should only be waged when necessary, and the Iraq war was not necessary.” He was the Press Secretary for an administration he believed was deceptive when it came to sending American boys into harms way, involving America in an unnecessary war. This is not disagreement or deception over farm subsidies were talking about here. This is war. Yet despite the gravity and impact in lives and treasure of the policies he now disagrees with, he stayed on as Press Secretary instead of resigning and coming to the American people with his late-in-the-game grievances. That to me seems inexcusable.

Obama Claims Uncle Liberated Auschwitz

Obama's uncle could not have possibly helped liberate Auschwitz unless he was a soldier in the Red Army:

It was not as if he was completely fabricating the story. It now turns out that it was his great-uncle, not his uncle, and the camp was the Ohrdruf subcamp at Buchenwald. I do not understand why Obama would make this mistake when it is well known that the Soviet army liberated Auschwitz. This is for the most part important to point out simply that Obama is not infallible on the stump as the media would have you believe.

Iraqi Violence At Four Year Low

From the LA Times: "The U.S. military said Sunday that the number of attacks by militants in the last week dropped to a level not seen in Iraq since March 2004. About 300 violent incidents were recorded in the seven-day period that ended Friday, down from a weekly high of nearly 1,600 in mid-June last year, according to a chart provided by the military. The announcement appeared aimed at allaying fears that an uprising by militiamen loyal to radical Shiite Muslim cleric Muqtada Sadr could unravel security gains since 28,500 additional American troops were deployed in Iraq in a buildup that reached its height in June. Navy Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, a military spokesman, credited the decrease to a series of operations launched by the Iraqi government in the last two months to extend control over parts of the country that have been under the sway of armed Sunni Arab and Shiite militants. They include crackdowns in the southern oil hub of Basra, the northern city of Mosul and Baghdad’s Sadr City district." Tweet

On this Memorial Day we remember the sacrifice of all our soldiers that have given life and limb in the defense of liberty. We must remember that America stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight the evil of Nazism and fought from island to island to defeat Imperialist Japan. We must remember the sacrifices made to defeat the Soviet Communist menace that emerged after World War II. We continue to remember and be grateful for all those Americans who paid the ultimate price fighting tryanny and terror today. God bless America and the American soldier that defends her.

Today is the birthday of the last American cowboy. John Wayne was an American icon who came to symbolize what being an American meant. Today we remember a time when unbridled patriotism was not something to be ashamed of. The Duke represents the type of person that no longer exists in the world of today's stars. We remember a time when Hollywood actually had someone you could look up to instead of the loud-mouth morons in tinsel town today. It seems appropriate on Memorial Day to remember the famous Western gunslinger that was the embodiment of the American way. He was the personification of the true American spirit and is still remembered by many as such today. He would have been 101 years old today. "Islam Does Not Recognize Boundaries"

Top Pakistani Taliban warlord Baitullah Mehsud on Saturday said jihad, or holy war, would continue in Afghanistan, despite peace negotiations between the militants and Islamabad. “Islam does not recognise boundaries and jihad in Afghanistan will continue,” he told a group of reporters invited to his stronghold of South Waziristan tribal district near the Afghan border. The jihad is global, and they mince no words when it comes to this.
