Tim Russert RIP
Tim Russert, host of NBC's "Meet the Press" and its Washington bureau chief collapsed and died at work Friday after suffering a heart attack. He was 58. Our thoughts are with the family. Brent Bozell had effusive praise saying that "whenever I’ve been asked to give examples of a fair, balanced and honest journalist, Tim Russert’s name was the first name that came to mind. This was a view shared by everyone and the ultimate testimony to his professionalism. As a moderator he was in a league of his own, always knowing when to speak and when to let his guests do the talking. As an individual he was an absolute class act, and always a gentleman. The world of journalism is vastly diminished today." Rush Limbaugh had this to say: "It's just a shame. Tim was a regular guy with that perpetual smile he wore naturally all the time. He loved life and got everything he could out of it. He was the closest thing there was at any of the networks to an objective journalist. Whether it was at dinner here in Florida while his son was taking golf lessons, or on the set of Meet The Press, Tim was always the same with me: genuine. He never condescended to anyone and was the consummate professional. He will be hard to replace."

Was Barack Obama A Muslim In His Childhood?
The question is important and fair to ask because it relates to Obama's honesty. I do not think he is a hidden Islamist or even a hidden Muslim, I do not think he will impose Islamic law as President, I don't think it tells us what type of policies he will pursue. As a matter of fact, I have often said that there is no need to argue over whether Obama was a Muslim when we know all too well the type of Christian church he attends. His Christianity is not really a strong point for him when his pastor is Jeremiah Wright.
The question is whether Barack Obama is lying to the American people once again. Obama's new Fight the Smears website says flatly: "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian." But is this the truth? Evidence has mounted that Barack Obama was a Muslim as a child. Daniel Pipes compiles some of the evidence. To see the full article see http://www.danielpipes.org/article/5544 If Pipes is right, why would Obama lie about this? It's actually quite obvious. He is afraid. Afraid of the political fallout, afraid of losing any political capital. Dishonesty may be a way of protecting himself.
Here are a couple of points from the Pipes piece:
The Catholic school: Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press reports that "documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim" while at a Catholic school during first through third grades. Kim Barker of the Chicago Tribune confirms that Obama was "listed as a Muslim on the registration form for the Catholic school." A blogger who goes by "An American Expat in Southeast Asia" found that "Barack Hussein Obama was registered under the name ‘Barry Soetoro' serial number 203 and entered the Franciscan Asisi Primary School on 1 January 1968 and sat in class 1B. … Barry's religion was listed as Islam."
The public school: Paul Watson of the Los Angeles Times learned from Indonesians familiar with Obama when he lived in Jakarta that he "was registered by his family as a Muslim at both schools he attended." Haroon Siddiqui of the Toronto Star visited the Jakarta public school Obama attended and found that "Three of his teachers have said he was enrolled as a Muslim." Although Siddiqui cautions that "With the school records missing, eaten by bugs, one has to rely on people's shifting memories," he cites only one retired teacher, Tine Hahiyari, retracting her earlier certainty about Obama's being registered as a Muslim.
Koran class: In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama relates how he got into trouble for making faces during Koranic studies, thereby revealing he was a Muslim, for Indonesian students in his day attended religious classes according to their faith. Indeed, Obama still retains knowledge from that class: Nicholas D. Kristof of the New York Times, reports that Obama "recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them [to Kristof] with a first-rate accent."

McCain On Target Blasting Boumediene Decision
The Boston Globe reports:
John McCain today slammed the US Supreme Court ruling that terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay have a constitutional right to challenge their detention in civilian courts. At a town hall meeting in Pemberton, N.J., McCain called it "one of the worst decisions in the history of this country." While McCain reminded voters that he has worked to prevent the torture of terrorism suspects, he also argued against giving those rights to enemy combatants who are not US citizens. McCain also noted that US officials have said that about 30 detainees released from Guantanamo Bay have attacked American forces. "There are some bad people down there," he said, adding that the first obligation of the government is to ensure the nation's safety. "This decision will harm our ability to do that." McCain also warned that the courts will be "flooded" with habeas corpus petitions, delaying the adjudication of the cases. He also approvingly quoted Chief Justice John Roberts' dissent -- and pointed out that Democratic rival Barack Obama voted against confirming Roberts and praised Thursday's decision.

Hamas Caused Huge Gaza Blast, Pretended It Was Israel, And Then Launched A Massive Attack
The BBC reports that Hamas has admitted that a massive explosion in the Gaza Strip on Thursday was caused by Jihadists preparing a terror operation against Israelis. Seven Palestinians, including a four-month-old baby were killed in the blast. "Members of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades were trying to prepare for a Jihad operation," Hamas said in a statement. The statement said six of those killed were Hamas jihadis, and the four-month-old baby of one of the jihadi's child. I guess it was take your baby to work day. Now this is the type of "martyrdom" operation we need more of.
It is not so suprising the initial reaction of Hamas was to blame Israel. They falsely claimed it was an air strike. Blaming the Jews for just about everything is not so uncommon in that neck of the woods, I guess even when you know for certain that your own people are responsible for what happened. In fact, it is a useful metaphor for the entire Israel-Palestinian conflict. The Arabs claiming and pretending that Israel is responsible for every woe when they are the ones who are truly at fault for causing this explosive conflict for the last 60 years.
Hamas even responded to its own bombing in Gaza with a massive assault on Israel. Just in case you're wondering, the BBC story refers to Hamas Jihadists as "militants," refers to the "Hamas movement," and only claims that "dozens" of rockets hit Israel in a barrage Thursday when a specific and astonishing number could have been used. You can never expect the BBC to get the story exactly right when it comes to Israel.
The barrage of rockets were launched into Israel in one day. More than 50 mortar shells, Kassam and Katyusha rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza on Thursday, most of them hitting the Ashkelon Beach region.
Hamas is a genocidal jihad Islamoterror organization bent on destroying Israel. I can only hope that they continue to create massive explosions in Gaza. The over 50 rockets fired into Israel in one day and the explosion in Gaza while preparing for a terror operation are each clear signs that Israel should never negotiate with Hamas, as if a sign is even necessary at this point. Yet on Wednesday the Israeli government said that it would support Egypt's efforts at brokering a truce between Hamas and Israel. What happened the next day indicates that a truce is the most boneheaded option in dealing with genocidal Jew-hating Islamofascist thugs. Hamas may be the "movement" of "militant" suicide bombers, but Israel's weakness makes it seem like the Suicide State.
Even after the salvo of over 50 rockets the response of the Israeli government to this all out attack was weakness. The Defense Ministry was still working to "exhaust" the dialogue with Egypt on a cease-fire with Hamas, sources in the Prime Minister's Office said. The fact that Israel believes that cease fires are an appropriate response is naive. There have been too many cease fires as it is, and things have only gotten worse as a result of policies of ceasing fire and continued negotiaton. Hamas is a virulently Jew-hating genocidal terror organization that should be attacked day in and day out without mercy. They should feel that they are all marked men, that their options are "martyrdom" or getting the hell out of dodge. They should never, not even for a second, feel or be given the impression that their attacks are succesful in weakening Israel. This, of course, has not been Israeli policy.
Israel is not a sane country. It is a country with the military might to stop these attacks by Islamic genocidal terrorist groups and refuses to do so. More than 50 mortar and rocket attacks in one day! The Islamoterrorists have not been weakened. They are proving through these attacks that they are strong and fear little in attacking the nation with the strongest military in the Middle East. Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip and everything since has come as no surprise. Those that were rational (the opposite of Ehud Olmert) said that it would be viewed as weakness and capitulation and that it would make the situation worse. Unfortunately, the rational were proven right as Hamas viewed the withdrawal as a victory over the Jews. They rightly interpreted the withdrawal as a surrender to Jihad terror that was strong enough to drive every Jew, settler and soldier, out of Gaza. They naturally continued fighting their war to annihilate Israel. They ransacked synagogues and even green houses that had been pumping out tons of produce before the withdrawal and which were left behind for them. The Palestinians then voted in Hamas. Israel's largest southern town, Ashkelon, is only now being hit by dozens of rockets. It was not being hit by rockets before Israel withdrew from Gaza. Israel's withdrawal allowed Hamas to take complete control Gaza.
If over 50 rockets hit San Diego in one day the response from the U.S. military would be awesome. The impotence of the Israeli army in dealing with their enemy, talk of cease-fires or negotiation, only emboldens the enemy. If cease-fires and negotiation actually led to peace Israel would be the most peaceful and secure nation on earth. Israeli Defense Force operations that are in response to provocation and kill a few here and a few there, a tit for tat system of dealing with genocidal Islamist maniacs, will not have any effect on the suicidal enemy that is determined to destroy Israel completely.

Sen. Lindsey Graham: Supports "If Necessary" A Constitutional Amendment To Modify GITMO Decision
The GOP has been blasting away at the wrongly decided decision by the Supreme Court today. Senator Graham Graham blasted the decision as “irresponsible and outrageous,” saying that “if necessary,” he would push for a constitutional amendment. He said he was “looking at every way I can to modify this position.” He further said that "the American people are going to wake up tomorrow and be shocked to hear that a member of Al Qaeda has the same constitutional rights as an American citizen,” said Graham. I agree with Lindsey Graham that Congress must take immediate action to make sure that the enemies of America that we pick up on a battlefield do not have the same rights as Americans.
Read my former boss Hugh Hewitt's new column on the subject for an insightful analysis of the decision: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/HughHewitt/2008/06/12/the_united_states_supreme_court_versus_america__awarding_the_privilege_of_habeas_corpus_to_terrorists

Blue Balled Republican
This video was created by the new political organization TruthThroughAction.org. It is a "new organization bringing indie filmmakers together to create online films and videos that support the Democratic party, its candidates and issues." The Democrat nonprofit was founded by New York filmmakers Joshua Sugarman and Brandon Yankowitz of YaSu Media, who are producing a series of short films and online videos. The "527" group is, unlike political action committees, exempt from contribution limits. "We're making products that we think young voters are more likely to e-mail to their friends, to post to their friends," Sugarman told ABCNEWS.com "Our products have a message but are also entertaining as film projects, and we don't think anybody else is doing the same thing."
Watch the video and someone out there try and tell me the "message" that these bozos are trying to convey. Is it that if you're a Democrat you will have promiscuous sex but if you are a Republican you will not? That if your a young Republican guy you will not be able to have one night stands with young Democrat gals? That if you support John McCain you won't get layed? Even from a comedic perspective the video is not all that funny. But when you hear that these Dems think these kind of videos have a message or are supporting the Democrat party you realize how immensely ignorant these people are. Is this the kind of video that would really appeal to younger people today and get them to go vote Democrat?

Supreme Court Declares Gitmo Terrorists Have Habeas Rights
The AP reports a stunning ruling by the Supreme Court that treats foriegn terrorists picked up on the battlefield as if they were Americans. The Supreme Court said that those held at the prison in Gauntanomo Bay may challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts. The court ruled 5-4 that the government is violating the constitutional rights of prisoners. Writing for the majority Justice Anthony Kennedy said that "the laws and constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times." If that cliche was not enough for you he went on to say that "liberty and security can be reconciled; and in our system they are reconciled within the framework of the law." No, they are apparetnly reconciled in Anthony Kennedy's head, what he thinks should be the law not what the law actually says. The ruling declared that prisoners in the remote US jail in southern Cuba "have the constitutional privilege of habeas corpus." What was once inconcievable, that those picked up in a war zone and held by the United States military have a right to habeus corpus, is now enshrined as constitutional law. According to this logic all Prisoners Of War may one day be able to gain access to American civilian courts. As former Chief of Staff to Attorney General Edwin Meese, the nationally syndicated radio host Mark Levin points out: "After all, you would think lawful enemy combatants have a better claim in this regard than unlawful enemy combatants. And if POWs have access to our civilian courts, how do our courts plan to handle the thousands, if not tens of thousands of cases, that will be brought to them in future conflicts?" In the history of this nation, when have we ever allowed access to our court systems to those enemy combatants captured in foreign lands?
The AP wrote that the Supreme Court dealt a "stiff rebuke to the Bush administration." Not everything is about the Bush administration, you stupid journalists. This is a rebuke to the War on IslamoTerror, a complete misunderstanding of the people we are fighting and the completely wrong message to send. The enemy has no respect for legalities or international law. They have no respect even for natural law when a mother can send her children to a suicidal bombing death. We pick these scum up in Iraq or Afghanistan and bring them back here so they can demand Habeus Corpus?! I thought the WOT was not supposed to be a law enforcement operation but a war that we would win at all costs. How can we win a war against the most determined enemy if we are going to treat them with kid gloves when we capture them? What message does this send to our enemies? More litigation and more priveleges for the enemy is not what we need in the War on IslamoTerror.
In dissent, Chief Justice John Roberts criticized his colleagues for striking down what he called “the most generous set of procedural protections ever afforded aliens detained by this country as enemy combatants.” The dissent pointed out that the majority of Justices in this case intentionally misread law and precedent. They utilized the Eisentrager case. The dissent in that case specifically pointed out that aliens in detention by American forces outside of our own sovereign territory had no right to habeas corpus. How could the majority intentionally misuse a case and distort precedent to apply habeas rights to those in Guantanomo?
Please note that the only Justices on our high court that have their heads screwed on straight are John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas. Do we really need a president that is more likely to give us more Ruth Bader Ginsburgs?
The most scathing dissent came from Antonin Scalia who wrote the follwing: "Today the Court warps our Constitution in a way that goes beyond the narrow issue of the reach of the Suspension Clause, invoking judicially brainstormed separation-of-powers principles to establish a manipulable 'functional' test for the extraterritorial reach of habeas corpus (and, no doubt, for the extraterritorial reach of other Constitutional protections as well). It blatantly misdescribes [sic] important precedents, most conspicuously Justice Jackson’s opinion for the Court in Johnson v. Eisentrager. It breaks a chain of precedent as old as the common law that prohibits judicial inquiry into detentions of aliens abroad absent statutory authorization. And, most tragically, it sets our military commanders the impossible task of proving to a civilian court, under whatever standards this Court devises in the future, that evidence supports the confinement of each and every enemy prisoner. The Nation will live to regret what the Court has done today. I dissent."

Islamic Student Sues School Over Graduation In Church, School System Settles
The AP reports that the Muslim student who sued his public high school because the graduation ceremony was held in a Baptist church has received an apology from Newark's school district and assurances that it will not hold future events in houses of worship. Bilal Shareef said he had to skip his 2006 graduation from West Side High School because his religious beliefs prohibit him from entering buildings containing icons of God. The lawsuit was filed on his behalf by the American Civil Liberties Union. School officials said they had to hold the ceremony at New Hope Baptist Church in order to accommodate 250 graduating seniors.
The fact that the ACLU would be the ones representing a Muslim over a school holding a non-religous function in what happened to be a church comes as no surprise. The school was not violating the Muslim's right because they chose a place that could accomodate a large graduating class. It was not a religous service being held and there was obviously no obligation to attend. The fact that Newark's school district was so quick to apologize and promise to never offend a Muslim again is disturbing. It should not be a priority of U.S. public institutions to make sure that Islamic sensitivities are not violated. I do not think that school systems should intentionally attempt to exclude anyone from a graduation but it is obvious that there was absolutely no malign intent. This Muslim student should be the one apologizing for being the type of grievance-monger that would file a lawsuit.

Dick Durbin: Hottest Hellfire For Those Who Criticize Michelle Obama
I guess I am going to have a spot reserved for me in "the hottest ring in hell." That is because I believe that it is legitimate to criticize Michelle Obama when she is giving stump speeches for her husband and says something as asinine as her being proud of her country for the first time in her adult life only because her husband is running. Republicans can point out how unpatriotic it is to say you have never been proud of your country before your husband was running for the highest office, especially when your husband's running mate was being tortured in Vietnam decades earlier. Barack had his wife give these speeches on his behalf. She did not have to. She said things that are shocking and stupid. Republicans are supposed to keep their mouths shut? Who gets to make these rules, Barack Obama? He and his supporters like Dick Durbin get to frame the debate as they see fit? For Senator Dick Durbin to suggest that the hottest ring in hell is reserved for those who criticize Michelle Obama is amazingly ignorant. In the mind of demented Democrat Senator some demon will be yelling "move over murderers, rapists, and child molesters, make way in that hottest ring for evil Republicans!"

Obama Says He Would Have Preferred Gas Prices To Rise Gradually
When asked by the interviewer whether high gas price can help us Obama asserts that he "would have preffered a gradual adjustment" to higher prices. The Democrat nominee in an interview is saying it is not the high prices that are the problem but only the fact that it has caused a "shock" to pocket books. Unbefreackinlievable.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConell blasted Obama and the Dems on the Senate floor for this comment and the Democrat policies that he claims contribute to higher gas prices.

Rush Limbaugh: "Take The Prompter And The Written Speeches Away From Barack Obama, And You Have Nothing."
"Ted Kennedy could do a better job," Rush Limbaugh said yesterday. "I've constantly noted, ladies and gentlemen, you take the prompter and the written speeches away from Barack Obama, and you have nothing. You have nothing like the guy with the soaring rhetoric and the inspiring and sermon-like quality."
Cases in point:
Limbaugh said: "He hasn't had much sleep in the last 48 hours. It's inhaler. There's no such a thing as an inhalator. And a breathalyzer? A breathalyzer is what they give you if you've been overserved adult beverages and you're driving around and the cops catch you."
On this video Limbaugh said: "If this were George Bush that you were listening to, this would have been commented on since it happened. You would have had people all over the country saying, 'Gosh, can't we get a guy that can talk? Can't we get a guy who can put two thoughts together?" He went on to say that "this is the worst example of it, but I have noticed this and I have seen this throughout these town hall debate situations." Limbaugh further noted that "when he makes his remark about the audience being loud and distracting, we didn't edit any of the audience out. The audience was not making a sound because the audience is as perplexed as you will be."

Jim Johnson Resigns From Obama's VP Vetting Team
Jim Johnson of Countrywide Financial has resigned from the Obama campaign after criticism of his leading the VP vetting team. The former Fannie Mae CEO’s resignation follows controversy over his mortgage loans from Countrywide. Obama said, “Jim did not want to distract in any way from the very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee, so he has made a decision to step aside that I accept. We have a very good selection process underway, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead. I remain grateful to Jim for his service and his efforts in this process.” It's interesting that within such a short timespan Obama goes from saying Johnson was not really "working for me" and that his job was "simply to gather up information" to now talking about how Johnson was involved in the "very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee." I guess if it was a "very important task" it validates all the criticism Obama was trying to deflect with his pre-resignation rhetoric. If you want more info on Jim Johnson check out one of my previous posts on the issue.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said that “Jim Johnson’s resignation raises serious questions about Barack Obama’s judgment. Selecting the vice presidential nominee is the most important decision a presidential candidate can make and one even Barack Obama has said will ’signal how I want to operate my presidency.’ By entrusting this process to a man who has now been forced to step down because of questionable loans, the American people have reason to question the judgment of a candidate who has shown he will only make the right call when under pressure from the news media. America can’t afford a president who flip-flops on key questions in the course of 24 hours. That’s not change we can believe in.”

McCain's And What Is "Not Too Important"
Obama's campaign and Democrat leaders have attacked McCain after he told NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday that it’s “not too important” when U.S. troops return from Iraq. John Kerry said McCain is “unbelievably out of touch with the needs and concerns of most Americans,” saying that to families of troops in harm’s way, “To them, it's the most important thing in the world.” Joe Biden said McCain is “totally out of touch with the needs of our troops and the national security needs of our nation.” Nancy Pelosi said the comment "is yet another indication how out of touch he is with the effect the war in Iraq is having on the readiness of our military."
Joseph Lieberman said he finds it “most outrageous” to suggest McCain is out of touch. The attack on McCain certianly is outrageous, as it is a false attack akin to those made about McCain's 100-years-in-Iraq line. McCain clearly states that the issue is American casualties, not American presence. He says that if American troops in Iraq were in the same situation as troops in South Korea then everything would be a different story, and hence it would not be "too important." He clearly believes that drawing down troops should be based on what the generals on the ground have to say and not some arbitrary timetable. He clearly argues for a focus on increased security and stability in Iraq, not obsession with withdrawal. Anyone who watches the clip above for themselves will realize the Democrat leaders and Obama are twisting what McCain said, relying on a mere three words of an interview to form an entire portrait of the man. As Lieberman put it, “This is exactly the kind of partisan political game the American people are sick and tired of.” It's stuff like this that should relegate Obama to the status of "not too important." Hopefully we can make that happen this November.

14 Year Old Potential Suicide Bomber: "Those Who Were Instructing Me Said That If I Believed In Serving God It Was My Duty To Fight"
This story from the Independent shows us all how sick and demented the Islamic enemy really is, the lengths that they will go to kill the infidel:
The surroundings were grim and forbidding, a notorious jail run by Afghanistan's feared security service for those taken prisoner in the bloody war with the Taliban. Among the inmates: Shakirullah Yasin Ali; a small, frail boy, just 14 years old, arrested as he prepared to carry out a suicide bombing against British and American targets. "If I had succeeded, I would be dead now, I realise that," he said in a soft, nervous voice. "But those who were instructing me said that if I believed in serving God it was my duty to fight against the foreigners. They said God would protect me when the time came."...
The Independent spoke to Shakirullah, a Pakistani Pashtun, one of the youngest ever suicide bombing suspects, after he was captured in a raid at the town of Khost in Afghanistan.
Sitting cross-legged on the floor of the prison run by Afghan intelligence, the NDS, Shakirullah said: "I do not know what is going to happen to me. All we were told was the British and the Americans were in Afghanistan and they were killing Muslims.
"All I know is what the mullahs told me and kept telling me, that the British and the Americans were against God," he said with his head bowed down, his hands twisting a handkerchief.
Shakirullah, one of four children of Noor Ali Khan, a farmer, lived at the village of Tandola in the Pakistani region of South Waziristan. He said his education was at a madrassa run by two imams, Mullah Saleb and Mullah Azizullah. About 50 students between 13 and 22 attended the school, where the syllabus consisted of learning the Koran by heart, interspersed with political lectures.
About two months ago, he finished a first course in Koranic studies. He was then approached by the two mullahs who told him that the time had come for him to serve God in Afghanistan.
"At first, I did not know what I was supposed to be doing, then Mullah Saleb said I would be striking a blow against the foreigners, the British and the Americans, and get justice for all the people being killed. I was told I must leave at once and they would talk to my family on my behalf. I wanted to see my mother and father but I was told that was not possible for security reasons. That upset me but I thought I will be seeing them again as soon as I got back. They said my family would get well paid for what I was doing."
On the way to Afghanistan Shakirullah said he was told by a mullah that his mission would involve driving a car bomb. "I said I did not know how to drive but they said they would teach me, they said I would not have to drive far. Mullah Saleb said it was too late to stop. He kept saying that to be a good Muslim I must fulfil my duty. I was missing my family but I did not know how to go back to my village and I did not know anyone in the area I could run to. There was nothing I could do except pray I would be all right and my family would be all right."
Shakirullah says he was driven across the border and taken to a house in the city of Khost. "There were a few more people there and the leader was a man they called the Doctor, he and Mullah Saleb took me for driving lessons and took me to sermons in the evening. The Doctor brought the explosives in two bags for the car and he was the one who made the bomb. I was told I would soon be ready to carry out my mission."
However, the car being prepared for the bombing, a Toyota Corolla, had stalled a few times while Shakirullah was being taught to drive and, on one occasion, he and the Doctor had been closely questioned by the police.
Forty-eight hours later, the house where they were staying was raided by Afghan and Nato forces. "I had been told by the mullah that I was ready to go, the time was right. But then they came during the night, the soldiers, and smashed down the doors. There were Afghans and foreigners. A gun was stuck to my face and I thought I was going to be killed. They dragged us all out and took us to a prison."
Shakirullah's attack may have been prevented but not that of the bomber who took the lives of [British] Privates Nathan Cuthbertson, 19, Charles David Murray, 19, and Daniel Gamble, 22. They had been going to speak to local people when a bomber detonated an explosive vest strapped to his chest.

Jim Johnson Leading B. Obama's VP Vetting Team
The Washington Post reports that last month Barack Obama turned to James A. Johnson, a former Fannie Mae chief executive and Washington insider since the Carter administration, to lead the vetting of potential running mates for the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee. The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that he received more than $2 million in home loans that might have been below average market rates from Countrywide Financial, a partner of Fannie Mae and a leading purveyor of the kind of subprime mortgages that spawned a national housing crisis. As CEO of Fannie Mae, Johnson was the beneficiary of accounting in which Fannie Mae's earnings were manipulated so that executives could earn larger bonuses. The accounting manipulation for 1998 resulted in the maximum payouts to Fannie Mae's senior executives -- $1.9 million in Johnson's case -- when the company's performance that year would have otherwise resulted in no bonuses at all, according to reports in 2004 and 2006 by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. In a 2006 civil enforcement action against Fannie Mae, another agency, the securities and Exchange Commission, called the company's 1998 accounting "fraudulent" and said numbers were "intentionally manipulated to trigger management bonuses."
Obama is defending his choice of Jim Johnson to lead his vetting team, calling reports into Johnson's ties to the mortgage company Countrywide "a game." The only one who is playing games is Barack Obama. Not only do we find that he has another questionable associaton, but he is also a hypocrite that has attacked his opponents for connections to Countrywide. One example is David Plouffe of the Obama campaign critizing Clinton in March for taking contributions from Countrywide lobbyists. 'If we're really going to crack down on the practices that caused the credit and housing crises, we're going to need a leader who doesn't owe these industries any favors." This is what Obama himself said about Countrywide Financial in April when running in Pennsylvania:
He also has Eric holder on his VP vetting team. As former deputy attorney general Eric Holder had a role in granting a pardon to fugitive financier Marc Rich in the last days of the Clinton White House. In December 2000, as Rich's lawyers were closing in on the pardon, one of them, Jack Quinn, singled out Holder in an e-mail. "The greatest danger lies with the lawyers," Quinn wrote his co-counsels. "I have worked them hard and I am hopeful that E. Holder will be helpful to us."
Yet Barack claims these two "aren’t folks who are working for me, they’re not people who I have assigned to a particular job in a future administration." John McCain attacked Obama perfectly on this point saying, "It’s preposterous for Senator Obama to claim that the leader of his VP selection committee isn’t working for him. Barack Obama has castigated Countrywide Financial, but now that Jim Johnson has been exposed for taking sweetheart deals from Countrywide’s CEO - Obama is in a state of denial. It’s that brand of weak leadership and hypocrisy that shows why Barack Obama has no record of taking courageous stands or making change in Washington." Preposterous indeed.
Furthermore, how can Obama claim that Johnson and Holder's job "is simply to gather up information about potential vice presidential candidates" and that they aren't working for me?" Vetting for potential running mates is not a tangential or "simple" job. These people are not licking envelopes, they have a critical task in his campaign. Yet he pretends their job is simple and unimportant in his attempt to excuse his appointing them to the task. If these are the type of people he has working for him now, who will he have working for him in the White House?

Stabbing Rampage Kills 7 In Japan
Fox News reports:
A man who police said "was tired of life" drove into a crowd of pedestrians Sunday and then went on a stabbing rampage in Tokyo's top electronics and video game district, killing seven people and wounding 10, authorities said. The deadly lunchtime assault paralyzed the Akihabara neighborhood, which is wildly popular among the country's youth. The killings were the latest in a series of grisly knife attacks that have stoked fears of rising crime in Japan.
Knife attacks are apparently on the rise, and 7 were murdered by a rampaging lunatic with a knife. What came across my mind when I saw this story is how it would play out if it had taken place in the United States. When multiple people are killed in America by pyschopaths with guns (school shootings, for example) we hear immediate calls for gun control. I wonder, and perhaps you can answer this for me, if something like what happened in Japan happened here would anti-gun liberals advocate knife control as well? Just a thought.

Female Genital Mutilation Reaches Norway
Reuters reports that police in Norway have arrested a Gambian-born man and charged him and his wife with subjecting five of their six daughters to genital mutilation. U.N. agencies say an estimated 100 to 140 million women and girls worldwide have undergone genital mutilation. It is prevelant among Muslims especially in Africa. Reuters provided disgusting excuses for this horrible mutilation in their story. Reuters writes that it "arouses horror among many people in the West but is a rite of passage for young women in many countries." They further write that "proponents say it promotes chastity before marriage and fidelity afterwards by reducing female sexual desire." It is repulsive that reuters in their multicultural haze would feel they need to provide justifications for this horrible injustice against young women. I do not want to hear "both sides" of this story when I read Reuters or any other Western information source. Don't become counsel for the defense of the West's enemies. I want to hear utter and complete condemnation of those sick irrational monsters that would committ these terrible acts.
Where is the feminist outcry about this issue? As usual, feminists are more worried about the evil conservatives and the Christian Right than Muslims throughout the world that treat their women like cattle and destroy genetalia.

Socialist Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison: "America An Imperial Power"
The congressman from Minnesota gave a speech recently to the far-left National Conference for Media Reform. He says that Ronald Reagan makes him "sick" but that George W. Bush is even worse than Reagan. He calls conservative talk radio "hate radio." He seems to think the media is biased to the right, but also says that conservatives can't really do their thing in academia because "at the academic institutions because they believe in some measure of truth." Silencing the opposition in our educational institutions for the "common good," a phrase he uses in his speech, does not seem to bother him at all. He calls conservatism the "politics of greed elevated to a political ideology." This man is a hateful wackjob socialist that fills his speech with ugly emotions and little facts.
He outdoes himself in the extreme and goes way off the deep end when raving that Americans "have seen the idea of America an imperial power fighting wars over oil. How dare those people have our oil under their sand!" This Islamic Congressman is so consumed with hatred of Bush and Republicans that he has become completely deranged.
The video which I had initially seen on youtube has become "a private video." If you can find it, you can watch it and see what I mean.

FDR's D-Day Prayer
June 6 was only a couple days ago. It marks the day when the invasion of Normandy began and Allied forces stormed the beaches. Though I should I have probably posted this on Friday, it is still appropriate that in honor of D-Day every American be familiar with FDR's prayer:

Azzam The American Redux: Another Example Of An American Islamist
Samir Khan is an American anti-American Jew-hating Jihadi blogger. He is a naturalized American citizen of Saudi birth and lives with his parents in North Carolina. Fox News reports that Jarret Brachman, director of research at West Point's Center for Combatting Terrorism, said Khan’s website "is the most sophisticated and aggressive Web site in English that really puts out bin Laden’s ideology and the message that’s promoted by Al Qaeda." But because of first amendment rights, the authorities say there is nothing much that they can do. This pro Al-Qaeda website from this degenerate that has probably never left his is allowed to operate with full impunity with no consequences. A cursory glance of his website offers a glimpse into the madness of this unfortunate soul, this enemy of our country. He should not be allowed to operate a Jihadi website. If it is not treason (Article Three, Section Three: Adhering to America's enemies, "giving them Aid and Comfort") then it is certainly close to it. If he loves the Jihadists, let him go live in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. should sponsor the flight. Better yet, maybe we should sponsor his stay at Gitmo. Perhaps what is even more frightening is that the report below shows another local Muslim from a local Mosque supporting Kahn's rhetoric on Iraq as Islamic.
