Kobe On Patriotism

Kobe Bryant upon playing for United States Olympic basketball team is asked where his pride in his country comes from, what it is inside him that provides for patriotism. The NBC interviewer asks, perhaps expecting a different answer, what it is "historically" that provides for patriotism inside of him. The basketball star answers that "our country's, we believe is the greatest country in the world and its given us so many opportunities and, um, there is just a sense of pride that you have..."

Howard Dean Plays The Race Card Calling the Republicans The "White" Party

I wonder why is he can't specify what it is about Republican ideas that are "white"? What is white about drilling offshore and in ANWR? What is it about the belief in less government that is white? Is the belief about a strong foreign policy and national defense a white belief? Is supporting traditional marriage and the right to life only for whites? Why do the Dems like Obama and Dean feel they need to use the race card in this election? It is getting tiresome and monotonous at this point. If the ethnic and racial make up of a party is more important the ideas then go with Howard Dean. Furthermore, it is not as if there are not high profile minorities in the Republican party. George Bush has nominated more blacks to his cabinet than previous presidents and to higher positions than ever before. He has given quite a lod of aid to fighting AIDS in Africa. Condi Rice is black. Colin Powell is black. Michael Steele is black. Ken Blackwell is black. J.C. Watts is black. Alberto Gonzalez is hispanic. Mel Martinez and Bob Martinez are hispanic. Sarah Palin is a woman. Elizabeth Dole is a woman. They are all Republicans and the list could be longer but why waste the time. Dean's labeling a party according to some racial characterstic is ignorant and a poor substitute for debating actual ideas.

John Bolton: "The United States Fiddled As Georgia Burned"

As usual, Ambassador John Bolton writes up another insightful piece, this time about the Russia-Georgia conflict. It can be read at the following link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/georgia/2563260/John-Bolton-After-Russias-invasion-of-Georgia-what-now-for-the-West.html

Here is a new video of the Georgian president saying "we are looking evil directly in the eye" in denouncing the "Russian invasion":

Pelosi Backs Off On Possibility Of Allowing Vote On Drilling

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday firmly rejected the idea of a House vote solely on the issue of offshore oil drilling, calling it "a hoax on the American people" backed by oil companies. "You want to drill? We want the royalties for the American people, and we want that to pay for renewable energy resources. We want to connect all that together." Pelosi said she wants to end what she called the failed energy policies supported by "two oilmen in the White House." She asserted that the two oilmen "want us to do more of the same. So they've come up with this gimmick, this hoax" that says if drilling is allowed in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and offshore, "it's going to bring down the price at the pump." She went on to declare, "ten years, 2 cents," arguing that 10 years would be the time needed to reap a small benefit to most Americans. "Even the president has said it isn't a quick fix. ... I can't allow a hoax to come to the floor."

It is an odd assertion for House Speaker to make when she says the two oilmen Bush and Cheney want "more of the same." How can it be "more of the same" when Bush is pushing for new drilling in places where it has never been done before? How would drilling in ANWR, in the OCS, in the Green River Basin, be more of the same? That is an important part of the solution to our energy independence and bringing down gas prices. It makes no sense to not allow new drilling. The benefits can end up being far more than we expect, and the costs are miniscule. Pelosi is blocking these important measures supported by vast majorities of the American people. She is the one perpetrating a "hoax" because the only explanation for her not even allowing a simple vote is that she is in the pocket of environmental lobby. It is ridiculous to think that Saudi Arabia should drill more but that America should not. Americans need to remember that this Democratic House Speaker is playing political games at our expense when they go to the polls this November.

U.S. Humanitarian Aid Arrives In Georgia And U.S. Agrees To Allow Modest Missile Sheild For Poland

Bloomberg reports that "the U.S. and Poland signed a preliminary accord today that will allow for 10 U.S. interceptor missiles to be based in the eastern European country, completing a defense system that Russia opposes." 10 missiles is certainly a modest defense system but it is the message that is more important. The United States claims the defense system is really meant to guard Europe against an Iranian missile threat, but naturally the Kremlin feels it is truly aimed at Russia. This deal must have been in the works for some time now but I am sure that the Russia-Georgia conflict helped wrap up any negotiations.

Joe Leiberman: Obama Is A "Talker" That Has Not Always “Put The Country First”

"Independent Democrat" Senator Joe Lieberman had this to say: “In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear: between one candidate, John McCain, who’s had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not. Between one candidate who’s a talker, and the other candidate who’s the leader America needs as our next candidate.’’

How long will Lieberman be able to dissent from his party before Harry Reid removes him from his Senate committee chairmanship positions? Will there be eventual retaliation against Lieberman or do they not want to disturb the status quo in which Lieberman caucases with the Senate Democrats and allows them to mantain a majority in the Senate?

In other news concerning the Senator according to his official website, Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have introduced a resolution recognizing the strategic success of the troop surge in Iraq and expressing gratitude to the members of the United States Armed Forces who made that success possible. The resolution calls on the Senate to acknowledge “the success of the troop surge in Iraq and its strategic significance in advancing the vital national interests of the United States in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world, in particular as a strategic victory in a central front of the war on terrorism.”

This is what Liebs had to say on this one: “It is time for all of us in Washington to put aside our partisan blinders and recognize the strategic success the surge has achieved, so that we can secure its gains and apply its lessons to the other front of the war on terror, the war in Afghanistan. Our responsibility is to build upon the success that has been achieved by acknowledging and advancing the strategy that is now helping to bring home our troops with honor.”

Georgian President Rallies In Tbilisi With Leaders Of Other Former Satellite States And Praises John McCain

On stage are the leaders of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia:

Here are the remarks McCain made that the Georgian President praised, and which Georgians roared to in approval:

It seems Obama may have the endoresement of Berlin, but McCain seems to have the full backing of Tbilisi.

Gov. Tim Kaine: Obama's "Request For A Ceasefire Has Been Complied With"

Tim Kaine is the Democrat governor from Virginia that is being talked about as a potential running mate for Barack Obama. On Fox News he said that "I’m very, very happy that the Senator’s request for a ceasefire has been complied with by President Medvedev" in regards to the Russia-Georgia conflict. Is it not a little odd for Governor Kaine to be wording the situation like that? Did Medvedev comply with Obama's request, was he not complying with George Bush's request? Hear ye, Hear ye, Obama speaketh, and Russia complieth.

Georgian President: Russian Endgame "Ethnic Cleansing"

President Bush also addressed the Russia-Georgia conflict today:

John McCain responded before Bush did by saying that “Russia’s aggression against Georgia is both a matter of urgent moral and strategic importance to the United States. The implications go beyond their threat to a democratic Georgia. Russia is using violence against Georgia, in part, to intimidate other neighbours such as Ukraine, for choosing to associate with the West.”

I do not pretend to be an expert on the current Russia-Georgia conflict, but I do know that Georgia stood with America and even sent troops from its relatively small army as America went to war with Iraq. They were part of the coalition of the willing. Russia on the other hand stood against us and continues (along with China) to stand against any current UN Security Council action against Iran. I think it is clear who is on our side and who is not, and the U.S. should make sure that there continues to be an independent sovereign Democratic Georgia.

Charlie Rangel Has The One Word Solution For Immigration Problem: "Amnesty"

Around the 2:00 mark, Rangel references the law enforcement agents and officials who arrest undocumented workers, saying that those sheriffs and mayors are "bad guys" who work in “little towns around the country. All they want to do is arrest somebody and get on TV,” adding that the local economies rely heavily on the immigrants. “They’re working against their interests," he said. "It’s almost like a slaveholder saying, 'Get rid of the slave, but we want them to work.”

Obama Failed To Vote Against Infanticide While In The Illinois State Senate

This story is shocking. It puts Obama on the far fringe of the abortion debate. It shows him to be a pro-abortion radical and nothing less.

Christ Hospital of Chicago was found to be leaving infants in failed abortions to die. A nurse blew the cover off of this infanticide taking place in the hospital. An investigation took place which found that the nurse's claims were accurate. The issue then came before the Illinois legislature. They began to debate whether infants born alive during abortions should be considered persons and have care provided for them. Obama voted against the bill.

In 2004 Obama's opponent in his race for the Senate charged him with supporting infanticide. Obama responded as the Chicago Tribune reported on October 4, 2004: “Obama said that had he been in the U.S. Senate two years ago, he would have voted for the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, even though he voted against a state version of the proposal. The federal version was approved; the state version was not. . . . The difference between the state and federal versions, Obama explained, was that the state measure lacked the federal language clarifying that the act would not be used to undermine Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court opinion that legalized abortion.” Now even this would not be a sufficient excuse for not voting for a bill that protects infants from being murdered. Perhaps if this was a purely intellectual debate he might then have an excuse. It was not an intellectual or academic debate because actual babies were being left to die. There is no excuse for the way he voted.

It gets worse. The National Right To Life Committee points out that Obama himself still uses the same excuse as can be seen from a June 30, 2008 “factcheck” issued by the Obama campaign. It still appeared on the Obama website on August 7, 2008. The major news outlets have been following the Obama defense without questioning it at all. His excuse for voting against the bill has been repeated without challenge by the mainstream media for years. THE NRLC cites a few examples. CNN reported on June 30, 2008, “Senator Obama says if he had been in the U.S. Senate in 2002, he, too, would have voted in favor of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act because unlike the Illinois bill, it included language protecting Roe v. Wade.” The New York Times reported in a story on August 7, 2008 that Obama “said he had opposed the bill because it was poorly drafted and would have threatened the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade that established abortion as a constitutional right. He said he would have voted for a similar bill that passed the United States Senate because it did not have the same constitutional flaw as the Illinois bill.”

The National Right To Life Committee has looked into the story and now says that Obama is not only a person who voted against a bill prohibiting infanticide but he lied about his motives. They write that "documents obtained by NRLC now demonstrate conclusively that Obama’s entire defense is based on a brazen factual misrepresentation. The documents prove that in March 2003, state Senator Obama, then the chairman of the Illinois state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, presided over a committee meeting in which the 'neutrality clause' (copied verbatim from the federal bill) was added to the state BAIPA, with Obama voting in support of adding the revision. Yet, immediately afterwards, Obama led the committee Democrats in voting against the amended bill, and it was killed, 6-4." These documents apparently leave Obama with no defense. He voted against a bill protecting babies from failed abortions. If the NRLC is accurate in its story then this needs to be exposed by our mainstream media now. Obama's cover cannot be allowed to last until November, the American people deserve to know the facts surrounding this vote. Obama cannot get away with such a vote, a vote far more radical than anyone in our Congress would dare to put on the record, a vote which truly questions why he is being considered for the highest office in our land.
