CNN needs to learn there is in fact no Constitutional gaurantee of "seperation of Church and State." That phrase appears nowhere in the Constitution, but rather appears in a letter that Thomas Jefferson penned to the Danbury Baptists over a decade after the Constitution was ratified. The Danbury Baptists wanted assurance from this Founding Father that their religious freedoms would be protected.
The actual text of the First Amendment declares, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Whether the cross in the Mojave Desert is an "establishment of religion" is the only question the Constitution requires asking, and should be the only question the justices of the Supreme Court consider.
