Given that there was a focus on Obama's radical associations during the election (such as Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, Michael Pfleger, to name a few), it seems like the height of either arrogance, stupidity, or at least incompetence to appoint a man like Van Jones to be an adviser in the administration. If the administration wanted... Read More to do the politically savvy thing they would save face by claiming they did not know about Van Jones's radicalism, and then have him dismissed. Is that going to happen? I have no crystal ball, but all I can say is that if it does not, it would be tantamount to support for the radical views of Van Jones and would reflect on the radicalism of this administration.

Hugo Chavez: Israel "Annihilates People" And Was Created "To Impede The Unity Of The Arab World"

The Jerusalem Post reports that "Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez attacked Israel Thursday during his visit to Syria, calling it an imperialist nation that annihilates other people. Chavez comments came during a news conference with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad after a one-hour meeting at the hilltop presidential palace. 'Israel has become a country that annihilates people and is hostile to peace,' he said, according to the Arabic translation of his remarks to reporters. In comments carried by Venezuelan state television, he also accused Israel of being part of imperialist efforts to divide the Middle East. 'The entire world knows it. Why was the state of Israel created? ... To divide. To impede the unity of the Arab world. To assure the presence of the North American empire in all these lands,' he said. Chavez is on an 11-day trip to Libya, Algeria, Syria, Iran, Belarus and Russia in his bid to build a multi-polar world and decrease US influence in the region. 'I believe it is a fateful battle. It's either now or never in order to liberate the world from imperialism and change the world from a unipolar into a multi-polar world,' Chavez told reporters in Damascus."

Hamas Tells UN There Will Be No Holocaust Lessons In UN-Run Gaza Schools

The Washington Post reports that "the prospect of United Nations-run schools in the Gaza Strip teaching children about the Holocaust has sparked fierce resistance this week from leaders of the Palestinian Hamas movement and forced international officials to confront a situation fraught with political risk. U.N. officials, who say they are only discussing changes to a school program on human rights, have not commented directly on whether any new curriculum will reference the Holocaust. But Hamas leaders, saying any such reference would 'contradict' their culture, are moving quickly to head off the possibility. 'Talk about the holocaust and the execution of the Jews contradicts and is against our culture, our principles, our traditions, values, heritage and religion,' Jamila al-Shanti, a Hamas legislative official, said in a statement distributed Tuesday after a meeting among elected leaders of the radical Islamist group and the head of the Hamas-run Education Ministry in Gaza."

Leading Doctors Say British National Health Service Sentencing Patients To Death

The Daily Telegraph reports it recieved a letter from "a group of experts who care for the terminally ill claim that some patients are being wrongly judged as close to death. Under NHS guidance introduced across England to help doctors and medical staff deal with dying patients, they can then have fluid and drugs withdrawn and many are put on continuous sedation until they pass away. But this approach can also mask the signs that their condition is improving, the experts warn. As a result the scheme is causing a 'national crisis' in patient care, the letter states. It has been signed palliative care experts including Professor Peter Millard, Emeritus Professor of Geriatrics, University of London, Dr Peter Hargreaves, a consultant in Palliative Medicine at St Luke’s cancer centre in Guildford, and four others. 'Forecasting death is an inexact science,' they say. Patients are being diagnosed as being close to death 'without regard to the fact that the diagnosis could be wrong. As a result a national wave of discontent is building up, as family and friends witness the denial of fluids and food to patients.'"

UCLA Economist: Hoover's Pro-Labor Stance Helped Cause Great Depression

Media-Newswire.com reports that the "pro-labor policies pushed by President Herbert Hoover after the stock market crash of 1929 accounted for close to two-thirds of the drop in the nation’s gross domestic product over the two years that followed, causing what might otherwise have been a bad recession to slip into the Great Depression, a UCLA economist concludes in a new study. 'These findings suggest that the recession was three times worse — at a minimum — than it would otherwise have been, because of Hoover,' said Lee E. Ohanian, a UCLA professor of economics. … After the crash, Hoover met with major leaders of industry and cut a deal with them to either maintain or raise wages and institute job-sharing to keep workers employed, at least to some degree, Ohanian found. In response, General Motors, Ford, U.S. Steel, Dupont, International Harvester and many other large firms fell in line, even publicly underscoring their compliance with Hoover’s program. Designed to placate labor and safeguard workers’ buying power, the step had an unintended effect: As deflation eventually did set in, the inflation-adjusted value of these wages rose over time, effectively giving workers a raise precisely at the time when companies were least in a position to afford such increases and precisely when productivity was beginning to fall. 'The wage freeze effectively raised the cost of labor and, by extension, production,' Ohanian said. 'If you artificially raise the price of production, your costs go way up and you pass them on to the customers, and they buy that much less.'"

Libyan Leader Gaddafi Blames African Wars On Israel

Ynetnews.com reports that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi says much of Africa's violence is due to foreign meddling and that Israel in particular is to blame for stoking conflicts there. Gaddafi's comments came Monday during an extraordinary African Union summit scheduled to coincide with a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the coup that brought Gaddafi to power. The Libyan leader blamed much of Africa's violence on what he described as intervention by unnamed "foreign powers," bent on plundering Africa's natural resources. While Gaddafi and other African leaders often blame foreign hands for stoking internal divisions, this was one of the most explicit and targeted Gaddafi outbursts in many years. Like most Arab countries, Libya does not recognize Israel."

French President Sarkozy Writes To The Parents Of Kidnapped Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit

Ynetnews.com reports that French President Nicolas Sarkozy recently wrote to the parents of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit to assure them that France has not forgotten about their son and will continue to work for his release. 'This August 28, on Gilad's 23rd birthday, my thoughts are with your son and with you as he suffers unacceptable detention conditions and is deprived of liberty for more than three years,' President Sarkozy wrote in a letter sent to the captive's mother and father. 'You can be certain that France and the French people will not forget Gilad and will continue to act tirelessly, in close consultation with the Israeli authorities to have him released. 'You can count on my commitment at all times to bring about, without delay, the day when you can reunite with him,' Sarkozy assured Aviva and Noam Shalit. The president said he had asked France's new ambassador in Israel, Christophe Bigot, to get in contact with the Shalit family upon his arrival in order to maintain the ongoing relationship that his predecessor had with the family since the abduction. Gilad Shalit, who is also a French citizen, was kidnapped into the Gaza Strip on June 25, 2006 by three Palestinian groups, including Hamas' military wing."

Israeli Government To "Unleash A Public Diplomacy Blitz In The US On Sunday Aimed At Nothing Less Than Reframing" The Conflict

The Jerusalem Post reports that the Israeli "government will unleash a public diplomacy blitz in the US on Sunday aimed at nothing less than reframing the Israeli-Arab conflict. Just a little more than a week after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu returned from London and Berlin, where he took every opportunity to say that the core of the conflict was not the settlements, but rather the failure of the Arab world to recognize the right of the Jews to a state in the region, a blue-ribbon list of government officials will be travelling coast to coast for more than a month bearing much the same message. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who has said that public diplomacy needed to be made one of his ministry's top priorities, held a meeting Monday inside the ministry to discuss the new campaign. According to a statement put out by Lieberman's office, government ministers Moshe Ya'alon, Yossi Peled, Dan Meridor and Benny Begin, as well as Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon and former consul-general in New York Alon Pinkas, will begin on Sunday - in a staggered fashion - fanning out across America, meeting with political and media figures, policy-makers, campus groups and Jewish organizations, in an effort to explain the government's positions. During the campaign, which will last until mid-October, various members of the group will be in each of the following cities: Washington, New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Las Vegas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami."

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Falsely Accuses GOP Of Being "Revisionist" When It Comes To Ted Kennedy

The irrational Rachel Maddow of MSNBC tries to take Republicans to task for portraying Ted Kennedy as one who would compromise if need be to get closer toward his agenda. See the selected and edited short clips of Republicans she offers and her commentary, followed by my respopnse below.

One clip Maddow shows has Utah Republican Orrin Hatch recounting Ted Kennedy tellilng the Utah Republican that "I'd really like to get this done." Does Maddow not accept that fact that Kennedy was willing to discuss issues and even compromise with Republican colleagaues if it meant forwarding his agenda? The GOP was not, as Maddow would have it, painting Ted Kennedy as the "great compromiser." What Republicans were painting Kennedy as is someone willing to compromise in situations where Kennedy felt the compromise would forward his ideological agenda. Yet, Kennedy was not against compromise with Republicans, and these Republicans Senators were merely discussing the ability of Kennedy to compromise. Why should a liberal like Maddow object to such statements? Yet this hack MSNBC anchor somehow has the ability to call these very short clips of Republicans "revisionist history."

She says that the GOP is conducting a "reimagining of Ted Kennedy as if he was not a liberal." Yet not a single of her very short clips expressed the sentiment that Kennedy was not a liberal. Everyone knows he was a liberal, it would be insane to deny, but that has nothing to do with his ability to work with Republicans and at times be bibartisan if it meant forwading issues he cared about.

I only need very recent evidence to prove my point. The No Child Left Behind Act was passed as a bipartisan measure and liberal Senator Ted Kennedy attended the signing because of his contributions to the bill.

Huckabee Says Kennedy Would Have Died Earlier Under Democrats Health Plan

For those who may object to Huckabee's comments, it is essential to point out that Huckabee is very certainly not the first to "politicize" Kennedy's death. In fact, his comments come in response to Democrats that have already made a Senator's passing an political issue. As ABC News reports, "Democrats are hoping that the memory of Sen. Ted Kennedy will revive the Democratic Party's flagging push for health care reform... 'Ted Kennedy's dream of quality health care for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration,' said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a statement. Pelosi's sentiment was echoed by former vice president Al Gore who served with Kennedy in the Senate."

Sept. 11 Plotter Cooperated Only After Waterboarding: Washington Post On "How A Detainee Became An Asset"

The Washington Post reports that "after enduring the CIA's harshest interrogation methods and spending more than a year in the agency's secret prisons, Khalid Sheik Mohammed stood before U.S. intelligence officers in a makeshift lecture hall, leading what they called 'terrorist tutorials.'
In 2005 and 2006, the bearded, pudgy man who calls himself the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks discussed a wide variety of subjects, including Greek philosophy and al-Qaeda dogma. In one instance, he scolded a listener for poor note-taking and his inability to recall details of an earlier lecture. Speaking in English, Mohammed 'seemed to relish the opportunity, sometimes for hours on end, to discuss the inner workings of al-Qaeda and the group's plans, ideology and operatives,' said one of two sources who described the sessions, speaking on the condition of anonymity because much information about detainee confinement remains classified. 'He'd even use a chalkboard at times.' These scenes provide previously unpublicized details about the transformation of the man known to U.S. officials as KSM from an avowed and truculent enemy of the United States into what the CIA called its 'preeminent source' on al-Qaeda. This reversal occurred after Mohammed was subjected to simulated drowning and prolonged sleep deprivation, among other harsh interrogation techniques. "
