Democrat Congressman Dan Boren Says It's Time To End "Czars"
The Tulsa World reports that "U.S. Rep. Dan Boren said Congress should use the power of the purse to push the Obama administration to remove so-called czars that do not go through a confirmation process. Responding to questions during a telephonic town hall, the Oklahoma Democrat said he was glad Van Jones, who resigned over the weekend as controversy continued to build over past statements, has left his post. Boren joined others in criticizing the growing trend to name czars to lead efforts in specific areas. Such officials do not go through oversight hearings or a confirmation vote in the Senate. Boren referred to them as unelected bureaucrats who do not answer to lawmakers. 'It is something I have heard a lot about,' he said."

Obama To Become First American President To Chair Security Council
The Financial Times reports that "Barack Obama will cement the new co-operative relationship between the US and the United Nations this month when he becomes the first American president to chair its 15-member Security Council. The topic for the summit-level session of the council on September 24 is nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament – one of several global challenges that the US now wants to see addressed at a multinational level." US Attacks Israel Over West Bank Settlements
The Financial Times reports that "the Obama administration attacked Israel on Friday for giving the green light to the building of hundreds of new homes in the occupied West Bank even as the two sides negotiate a freeze on settlement construction. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, is set to approve the new homes in the coming days, a move that appears aimed at softening opposition within his rightwing Likud party to a temporary settlement freeze. An official close to Mr Netanyahu who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the issue said the PM would consider freezing building 'for a few months' only after giving the green light to the construction of the new units for Jewish settlers. 'We regret the reports of Israel’s plans to approve additional settlement construction,' said Robert Gibbs, White House spokesman. 'The US does not accept the legitimacy of continued settlement expansion and we urge that it stop. We are working to create a climate in which negotiations can take place, and such actions make it harder to create such a climate.'" Tweet
