U.S. Terror Suspects Accused Of Targeting Marine Base
Reuters reports that the "two men charged in North Carolina last month with plotting terrorist attacks overseas also planned to attack the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, authorities said on Thursday. The two were among seven suspects arrested in August for conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and for conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim and injure people overseas. A new indictment unveiled on Thursday charged Daniel Patrick Boyd, the group's alleged ringleader, and Hysen Sherifi 'with conspiring to murder U.S. military personnel' in connection with the planned assault on the Marine Corps base, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Raleigh said in a statement." Islamist Illinois Man Charged In Plot To Bomb Federal Offices
Reuters reports that "an Illinois man was ordered held on Thursday on charges he tried to blow up a federal building in the state capital, a case unrelated to the New York terrorism plot. Michael Finton, also known as Talib Islam, was arrested in Springfield, Illinois, and charged with attempted murder of federal officers or employees and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction, charges that carry a life sentence. 'Fortunately, a coordinated undercover law enforcement effort was able to thwart his efforts and ensure no one was harmed,' David Kris, assistant Attorney General for National Security, said in a statement." Jordanian Arrested For Dallas Skyscraper Bomb Plot
The Dallas Morning News reports that "a 19-year-old Jordanian citizen accused of trying to blow up a downtown Dallas skyscraper told a federal magistrate this morning at his first court appearance that he understands the charges against him. Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, who was provided a court-appointed attorney, is charged with trying to detonate a weapon of mass destruction. He is expected to enter a plea at a later hearing. Smadi was arrested Thursday after he parked a vehicle laden with government-supplied fake explosives in the underground parking garage of Fountain Place, a 60-story tower at Ross Avenue at Field Street, authorities said." Iran Nuclear Showdown Escalates As Iran Reveals Existence Of Second Uranium Enrichment Plant
The Independent reports that "the crisis in relations with Iran escalated ominously yesterday after the leaders of the US, Britain and France accused the regime in Tehran of operating a secret uranium enrichment facility buried deep in a mountain bunker near the ancient religious city of Qom. Barack Obama called Iran's activity 'a direct challenge' to the international community. The accusations were made public in an extraordinary joint statement by the US President, flanked by Gordon Brown and the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy before the start of the G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh. Iran had previously insisted that its plant at Natanz, which is open to international inspection, was the only one involved in enrichment. The new revelation sharply raises the stakes at a time when Israel has been signalling that military strikes against Iran are on the table."

Rich Lowry of National Review writes: With Bush, everyone in the world was, just a little bit beneath the surface, a freedom-loving democrat. With Obama, everyone is a peace-loving multilateralist. "The yearning for peace is universal," Obama said. Of course, so is the yearning for war, or it wouldn't be endemic to human existence. Speeches like this are always going to be aspirational, but is it really too much to ask that U.S. presidents be a little more modulated, sociologically humble, and realistic?

Canada Set To Walk Out On Ahmadenijad's UN Speech
The Ottawa Citizen reports that our friends to the north "will boycott Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech at the United Nations on Wednesday, saying his outbursts about the Holocaust and Israel are 'shameful.' Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon will be at the world body to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly’s annual debate, but officials signal he and other members of the Canadian delegation will vacate the Canadian seats when the Islamic republic’s president approaches the podium. Walking out of the chamber is seen as a strong diplomatic show of disgust at the UN — and since the chamber is generally packed on the first day of the annual summit, Canada’s empty seats will not go unnoticed. One of the first speakers of the day will be U.S. President Barack Obama, who is making his debut address before the assembly. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia spoke with the Orthodox Jewish newspaper Hamodia about the Court's jurisprudence and the role of religion in American life. Scalia rightly explained concerning Establishment Clause issues that "my court has a series of opinions that say that the Constitution requires neutrality on the part of government, not just between denominations...but neutrality between religion and non-religion. I do not believe that. That is not the American tradition." He also said that "I am not sure how Orthodox Jews feel about the Establishment Clause, but I assume they do not like driving G-d out of public life." Israel Blasts Goldstone Commission Report And Says It Should Be Treated Like The UN Resolution Equating Zionism With Racism
The Goldstone Commission report is a 574-page U.N. report on last winter's war in Gaza which accuses Israel of war crimes in her latest recent war of self-defense.
In a speech to the heads of the American Jewish Committee, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said: "The Goldstone Report should be treated like the UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 equating Zionism with racism, thus we must mobilize and act with all force against the report in order to remove it." He said that "the Goldstone report is a dangerous attempt to harm the principle of self-defense by democratic states and provides legitimacy to terrorism." That is precisely what this typical anti-Israel UN propaganda does. No one appointed by the UN Human Rights Commission would be taken seriously by anyone.

Jimmy Carter's NSA Zbigniew Brzezinski Says America Should Shoot Down Israeli Planes On Route To Attack Iran
Zbigniew Brzezinski was interviewed and the subject of an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities was raised. First he stated that "we are not exactly impotent little babies. They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?" He then actually advocated America shooting down Israeli planes using Iraqi airspace to fly toward Iran saying "we have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a Liberty in reverse."He was speaking of the incident in which Israeli jet fighters and torpedo boats attacked the USS Liberty in international waters, off the Sinai Peninsula, during the Six-Day War in 1967.
