United States And Israel Commend IAEA Censure Of Iran

The Jerusalem Post reports that the "US and Israel expressed satisfaction over the weekend with what officials from both countries termed 'a growing momentum' of international pressure on Iran to halt activities that would enable it to construct nuclear weapons. The UN's International Atomic Energy Agency on Friday passed a resolution censuring Iran 25-3, demanding that Teheran immediately freeze construction of its newly revealed nuclear facility and heed Security Council resolutions to stop uranium enrichment."

88 Year-Old Former Nazi SS Soldier Currently On Trial Says He Is Proud Of His Service

The Jerusalem Post reports that a "man accused of murdering Dutch civilians as a member of a Waffen SS hit squad said at his trial Friday that he was proud about being chosen to fight for the Nazis. Heinrich Boere, 88, made his first comments to the Aachen state court since his trial opened at the end of October. As part of that SS unit, he is charged with killing a bicycle-shop owner, a pharmacist and another civilian. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison if convicted."

Israeli Air Force Kills Al-Qaeda Influenced Terrorist In Gaza

The Jerusalem Post reports that a "Palestinian terrorist was killed on Friday morning when the IAF struck a Gaza terror cell preparing to fire rockets into Israel, according to the IDF. In a statement, the army said that the terrorist belonged to the Jaljalatt terror organization, a Salafist movement operating in the Gaza Strip and influenced by al-Qaida... In a statement, the IDF said that it viewed Hamas as being fully responsible for maintaining quiet in the South and that the army would continue to respond severely to any attempt to shatter the calm. The statement added that some 770 Kassam rockets, mortar shells and Grad missiles had been fired at Israel since the beginning of 2009. On Thursday evening, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired five mortar shells toward the western Negev. The shells landed in an open field in the Eshkol region, causing no casualties or damage. Earlier Thursday, an IDF bomb squad detonated a 15-kilogram explosive device seized during a search conducted along the Egyptian border."

Gallup: Strong Majority Of Americans Against Recent Terror Trial Decisions

Gallup reports that by "59% to 36%, more Americans believe accused Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed should be tried in a military court, rather than in a civilian criminal court. Most Republicans and independents favor holding the trial in a military court, while the slight majority of Democrats disagree. These findings come from a Nov. 20-22 USA Today/Gallup poll conducted a week after U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced that Mohammed's case would move from a military tribunal in Guantanamo Bay, where the admitted terrorist was originally charged, to a federal court in New York City."

Professor Graglia eloquently points out how rule "by judges is in violation, not enforcement, of the Constitution." To read this important article visit http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110006730.

As Justice Antonin Scalia succinctly put it in his dissenting opinion in Board of County Commissioners, Wabaunsee County, Kansas v. Umbehr in 1996: "What secret knowledge...is breathed into lawyers when they become Justices...that enables them to discern that a practice which the text of the Constitution does not clearly proscribe, and which our people have regarded as constitutional for 200 years, is in fact unconstitutional?...Day by day, case by case, [the Court] is busy designing a Constitution for a country I do not recognize."

Obama Shatters Spending Record for First-Year Presidents

Fox News reports that "President Obama has shattered the budget record for first-year presidents -- spending nearly double what his predecessor did when he came into office and far exceeding the first-year tabs for any other U.S. president in history. In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion -- $2.8 trillion in 2000 dollars, which sets a benchmark for comparison. That fiscal year covered the last three-and-a-half months of George W. Bush's term and the first eight-and-a-half months of Obama's. That price tag came with a $1.4 trillion deficit, nearly $1 trillion more than last year. The overall budget was about a half-trillion more than Bush's for 2008, his final full fiscal year in office. That's a big increase. But compared with other presidents' first years in office, Obama is running circles around them."

Netanyahu Sets Moratorium On West Bank Growth, But What Does He Expect In Return?

The Los Angeles Times reports that "Israel imposed a 10-month moratorium Wednesday on approvals for new homes in Jewish settlements across the West Bank. But it appeared unlikely that the restriction, applauded by the Obama administration, would be enough to coax the Palestinians back to U.S.-brokered peace talks. The unilateral decision by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu marked a retreat from the pro-settler policies his right-wing Likud Party has pursued for more than three decades in and out of government. In a televised speech, he called it a 'painful step' aimed to 'encourage resumption of peace talks with our Palestinian neighbors.'... The Palestinian Authority leadership rejected his appeal, repeating its months-old condition that Israel first freeze all settlement growth on land claimed by the Palestinians in East Jerusalem as well as the West Bank."

Israel has seemingly already begun the process of concession under Bibi Netanyahu. The Israeli government has ordered a "moratorium" on West Bank settlement growth, to which the Palestinians responded by saying that is not enough. This is an appeasement policy that will achieve nothing, and even the the concessions made by Israel are ones that the Palestinian Authority of the West Bank already refuses to recognize. As an opinion piece on Ynetnews.com makes clear, the the "decision to halt residential construction in the settlements and the deal being formulated with Hamas have one thing in common: In both cases the Israeli side gives something and doesn’t get anything in return, or alternately, gets much less. The decision passed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the cabinet Wednesday regarding the halt of construction in Judea and Samaria was supposed to prompt an immediate response by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in respect to a Palestinian return to the negotiations table."

3rd Circuit Upholds Public School Ban On "Silent Night" And Other Religious Holiday Music Even If Only Instrumental Versions

The U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a New Jersey school district's policy banning celebratory religious holiday music at school-sponsored holiday concerts. The Court concluded saying that "those of us who were educated in the public schools remember holiday celebrations replete with Christmas carols, and possibly even Chanukah songs, to which no objection had been raised. Since then, the governing principles have been examined and defined with more particularity. Many decisions about how to best create an inclusive environment in public schools, such as those at issue here, are left to the sound discretion of the school authorities." The Newark Star-Ledger explains the background to this case reporting that the "controversy dates to 2004 when the Maplewood-South Orange district extended a 1990 ban on singing religious songs in school performances to include instrumental versions of those songs."

FIRE Reports On Political Litmus Tests Planned For Teachers In University Of Minnesota-Twin Cities

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education reports that " the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is planning to enforce a political litmus test for future teachers. The university's College of Education and Human Development intends to mandate certain beliefs and values—'disposition'—for future teachers. Yet that is not enough. It even intends to redesign its admissions process so that it screens out people with the wrong beliefs and values-those who it judges will not be able to be brought around to the correct beliefs and values of "cultural competence" even after remedial training." Gay Marriage Losing Support In New Jersey

Rueters reports that "New Jersey voters are split on whether to legalize gay marriage, but more people now oppose it than support it, a poll found on Wednesday. The Quinnipiac University survey found 49 percent of voters oppose a law allowing same-sex couples to marry, while 46 percent support such legislation, reversing an April poll that found 49 percent supported it and 43 percent opposed it... Democratic New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine has pledged to sign a bill into law if it is passed by the legislature before his term ends in January. Corzine lost re-election this month to anti-gay marriage Republican Chris Christie. But it remains uncertain if lawmakers in New Jersey, which already permits same-sex civil unions, will bring the issue to a vote. Civil unions afford couples largely the same rights as those of married couples -- from insurance coverage to tax benefits and hospital visiting rights."

ABC Cancels Cancels Adam Lambert's Good Morning America Concert After Obscene Performance At AMA

The AP reports that "Adam Lambert's racy American Music Awards performance cost him a gig on 'Good Morning America,' but he will perform live instead on ABC's morning rivals at CBS. Lambert was to sing Wednesday on 'GMA,' but the network said Tuesday it was canceling the openly gay singer because 'we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.' While singing his new song, 'For Your Entertainment,' at the awards program on Sunday, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in Lambert's crotch. The performance prompted many complaints to ABC, and the network cut out the brief oral sex simulation for its West Coast broadcasts."

Britain Worried About Obama's "Dithering" And Britian's Defense Secretary Blasts Obama For "Taking A Period Of Hiatus" On Afghanistan

The Telegraph reports that Britain's Defense Secretary Bob Ainsworth "took the unprecedented step of publicly criticising the US President and his delays in sending more troops to bolster the mission against the Taliban. A 'period of hiatus' in Washington - and a lack of clear direction - had made it harder for ministers to persuade the British public to go on backing the Afghan mission in the face of a rising death toll, he said. Senior British Government sources have become increasingly frustrated with Mr Obama’s 'dithering' on Afghanistan, the Daily Telegraph disclosed earlier this month, with several former British defence chiefs echoing the concerns. But Mr Ainsworth is the first Government minister to express in public what amounts to personal criticism of the US president’s leadership over the conflict which has so far cost 235 British lives."

NY Post: Many Disgusted By Adam Lambert's Lewd And Obscene Performance At American Music Awards

The New York Post reports that "Adam Lambert shocked and surprised the American Music Awards Sunday night with what some viewers deemed a 'lewd' performance of the title track of his newly-released debut album, 'For Your Entertainment.' The 'American Idol' runner-up pelvic-thrusted his way through the four-minute, S&M-themed routine, taking time out from singing to grope a female dancer, kiss a male musician and, most shockingly, shove a male dancer's face into his crotch, in an act that simulated fellatio. The raunchy stuff was apparently added to the live broadcast, and the routine, at the last minute, and the network said yesterday it was caught by surprise. The simulated sex act was edited out of the videotaped version of the awards show that was transmitted three hours later to the West Coast -- but the rest of Lambert's performance remained intact."

Joe Lieberman On Reid Health Care Plan: "No"

The Wall Street Journal reports that "Sen. Joseph Lieberman, speaking in that trademark sonorous baritone, utters a simple statement that translates into real trouble for Democratic leaders: 'I'm going to be stubborn on this.' Stubborn, he means, in opposing any health-care overhaul that includes a 'public option,' or government-run health-insurance plan, as the current bill does. His opposition is strong enough that Mr. Lieberman says he won't vote to let a bill come to a final vote if a public option is included. Probe for a catch or caveat in that opposition, and none is visible. Can he support a public option if states could opt out of the plan, as the current bill provides? 'The answer is no,' he says in an interview from his Senate office. 'I feel very strongly about this.' How about a trigger, a mechanism for including a public option along with a provision saying it won't be used unless private insurance plans aren't spreading coverage far and fast enough? No again. So any version of a public option will compel Mr. Lieberman to vote against bringing a bill to a final vote? 'Correct,' he says."
