June 2010 California Voter's Guide

Here is how I intend to vote (including primaries where I actually have a preference):

Prop 13: Yes, it limits property tax increases
Prop 14: No, open primaries defeat the very purpose of having a primary to begin with. Further, it sets up a "top two" primary that sends only the top two vote getters into the general election. This means that you could potentially have candidates from only one party to choose from, especially if your district is politically tilted heavily in favor of one party
Prop 15: No, not real campaign reform.
Prop 16: Yes
Prop 17: Yes, allows auto insurance companies to base their prices in part on a driver’s history of auto insurance coverage. They should be allowed to base their prices on whatever they want, and that means lower prices for those insured

Republican Primary -
Governor: Meg Whitman
Lt. Governor: Sam Aanestad
Sec. of State: Damon Dunn (Orly Taitz is the Queen of the Birthers, and it does Republicans no good to have that in a California election)
Attorney General: John Eastman, former Dean of Chapman Law School, a conservative and originalist constitutional legal scholar, the conservative side of talk show host Hugh Hewitt's “Smart Guys” segment that I have heard many times on the radio
Insurance Commissioner: Brian Fitzgerald
U.S. Senator: Chuck Devore, military reservist, sharply criticized the heckling of Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren at UCI and even asked for UCI to ban the Muslim Student Union

Dem Primary (I will not be voting in these primaries, but here is my take anyway) -
Governor: Do not vote for Jerry Brown
Lt Governor: Eric Korevaar
U.S. Senator: Mickey Kaus
