Ninth Circuit Overturns Lower Court's Light Sentence For Attempted Al-Qaeda Millenium Bomber
The LA Weekly reports that the "U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday overturned the conviction of the man who put LAX on the terror map, concluding that Ahmed Ressam was not given enough time behind bars for his plot to bomb the airport on New Year's Eve, 1999. The man, who was caught driving a vehicle loaded with a bomb into the U.S. from Canada at Port Angeles, Wash. that December, later cooperated with authorities and admitted he had been trained by Al-Qaeda. After his conviction in Los Angeles he was given a 22-year sentence, which was half way between the defense team's request of 12-and-a-half and the 35 years recommended by federal prosecutors. However, Ninth Circuit Judge Arthur L. Alarcón wrote that 'Ressam's crimes of conviction carry an advisory sentencing guidelines range of 65 years to life in prison, and a statutory maximum penalty of 130 years in prison.' The court voted 2 to 1 to have Ressam re-sentenced in Seattle. 'We conclude that the district court committed procedural error in failing to address specific, nonfrivolous arguments raised by the government in imposing a sentence that is well below the advisory Sentencing Guidelines range,' wrote Alarcon." Largest-Ever Federal Payroll To Hit 2.15 Million
The Washington Times reports that the "era of big government has returned with a vengeance, in the form of the largest federal work force in modern history. The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that "the era of big government is over" and joined forces with a Republican-led Congress in the 1990s to pare back the federal work force." CBS Rejects Gay Super Bowl Ad
CNN reports that "Super Bowl network CBS rejected an ad Friday from ManCrunch.com, a gay dating Web site... ManCrunch's ad, which can be viewed on its Web site, shows two men watching the Super Bowl. Their hands brush each other in the potato chip bowl, which inspires a passionate, male-on-male make-out session. ManCrunch is not alone. Godaddy, an online retailer of Web site domain names, is running an ad in the Super Bowl this year but it had another ad rejected by CBS in the process. The rejected ad features a man named Lola." Senator Gregg: "Fiscal Insanity" As Obama Grows Government "Radically"
The AP reports that "President Barack Obama unveiled a multitrillion-dollar spending plan Monday, pledging an intensified effort to combat high unemployment and asking Congress to quickly approve new job-creation efforts that would boost the deficit to a record-breaking $1.56 trillion... The result is a budget plan that would give the country trillion-dollar-plus deficits for three consecutive years. Obama's new budget projects a spending increase of 5.7 percent for the current budget year and forecasts that spending would rise another 3 percent in 2011 to $3.83 trillion."

54 Democrat Members Of Congress Tell Obama To Pressure Israel
The Republican Jewish Coalition reports that "54 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives (no Republicans) sent a letter to President Obama - a letter in which they urge him to pressure Israel to loosen security measures on Israel's border with Hamas-controlled Gaza. This is outrageous. And we need to raise our voices to respond! These security measures were implemented to counter the threat from terrorism originating from the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip. Not a single Republican member signed on. But the fact remains that one in five Democrats in Congress have called on the President to pressure Israel. Unbelievably, they want him to demand an end to measures imposed to fight against terrorism. These 54 Democrats expressed no concern whatsoever about the consequences their ideas might have for Israelis living under the threat of terrorism from Gaza!"
