House Republicans Introduce Bill To Repeal Obamacare
The Hill reports that "House Republican leaders introduced a bill Thursday to repeal and replace the sweeping healthcare law adopted in late March. According to Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), the measure would repeal the current law and replace it with the alternative the minority party offered to the original healthcare legislation last November.
“As unpopular as this healthcare bill is today, it’s at the height of its popularity,” Blunt said. “The more the American people know about it, the more concerns they are going to have, and the more they are going to look at alternatives.”

White House Says Rahm Emanuel Had Bill Clinton Offer Unpaid Advisory Position To Sestak In Exchange For Dropping Out Of Senate Primary
The report this morning on the Sestak scandal is that former President Bill Clinton was tasked by White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to approach Congressman Joe Sestak to apparently offer him an unpaid advisory role on an intelligence board in exchange for getting him to drop his primary bid against Senator Arlen Specter.
Despite the fact that the White House has finally addressed the story and claims the offer was for an unpaid position, the fact is that it is still a a criminal misdemeanor as federal law forbids the direct or indirect offer of a position as consideration for a political favor.
Futher, one must wonder why former Governor Rod Blagojevich was chased out his position when he claims that what he was doing was attempting to use the open Senate seat as leverage for a political deal? If this is what is proven did occur, is this really any different than the Sestak story? Why did the media rush to judgment against Blagojevich but rush to acquit and sheild the Obama administration regarding Sestak? The Blagojevich attorneys should subpoena Sestak to appear as a witness to testify as to the sorts of political deals that do take place in Washington, including from the White House.

Darwin vs. Design: William Dembski Debates Lewis Wolpert
William Dembski is the American mathematician, philosopher, theologian, author, and professor of philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He is one of the most prominent proponents of intelligent design (ID), well-known for his "specified complexity" argument. Lewis Wolpert is a prominent atheist and Professor of Biology as Applied to Medicine in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology of University College, London. The two debated each other on the issue of intelligent design, and the audio of the debate can be heard at http://www.premierradio.org.uk/listen/ondemand.aspx?mediaid={D4A8EEE4-99E0-44AB-B1CB-05C835451772}.

Republicans On Senate Judiciary Committee Ask AG To Investigate Offer Obama Made To Sestak
ABC News reports that letter was sent to Attorney General Eric Holder by "all seven Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee 'urge the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Congressman Joe Sestak's claim that a White House official offered him a job to induce him to exit the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Senator Arlen Specter.' The seven – Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Orrin Hatch of Utah, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jon Kyl or Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, John Cornyn of Texas and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma – allege that the offer would appear to violate federal criminal laws, including 18 U.S.C. 600, which prohibits promising a government position 'as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity' or 'in connection with any primary election or political convention or caucus held to select candidates for any political office.' Rep. Sestak, D-Penn., who defeated Specter in the primary last week, told Comcast’s Larry Kane in February that the White House had offered him a position in exchange for not challenging Specter. White House senior adviser David Axelrod said on Monday that White House lawyers had looked into it and judged everything 'perfectly appropriate.'" Tweet

Cato Senior Constitutional Scholar Ilya Shapiro vs. Penn Law Professor Deborah Pearlstein Debating Use Of Foreign Law In Constitutional Interpretation
I think both the common sense and only legitimate approach is that espoused by Ilya Shapiro in the debate. International law should play no role in American Constitutional law, it should only influence international legal issues (e.g., interpretation of a treaty). I thought this debate was worth posting in light of the fact that the Supreme Court in Graham v. Florida just ruled that the laws of 37 States and the District of Columbia which allowed for juvenile life without parole were unconstitutional, and the majority opinion of Justice Anthony Kennedy said that there was a "global consensus" that supported this. Hugh Hewitt: "When Does Blagojevich Subpoena Sestak?"
Hugh Hewitt, a law professor, professional attorney, and nationally syndicated talk show host, writes on his blog that it "[s]eems to me that Rod Blagojevich can ask with some reason why his conversations about President Obama's Senate seat merit his prosecution but those with unnamed officials and Joe Sestak don't even get follow-up questions on Meet the Press. Even Anthony Weiner sees the cover-up here. Reporters shouldn't let Sestak drone on with his talking points as long as he is covering up details of what could be a crime." Tweet

Other State Lawmakers Looking To Follow Arizona's Lead In Immigration Law
Fox News reports that "[w]hile Arizona faces the scorn of the White House and local governments across the country for its immigration law, lawmakers in several states are looking to follow the Grand Canyon State's lead. Lawmakers and politicians in Texas, Rhode Island, Utah and Georgia are among those who, in the month since Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the law, have announced plans to introduce similar legislation. The officials say states need to take matters into their own hands to tackle illegal immigration and in turn reduce the taxpayer cost associated with large undocumented populations in their hospitals, schools and prisons. They draw inspiration directly from the Arizona law, bucking the trend of local and state officials who have protested Arizona and called for boycotts against the state." Tweet

June 2010 California Voter's Guide
Here is how I intend to vote (including primaries where I actually have a preference):
Prop 13: Yes, it limits property tax increases
Prop 14: No, open primaries defeat the very purpose of having a primary to begin with. Further, it sets up a "top two" primary that sends only the top two vote getters into the general election. This means that you could potentially have candidates from only one party to choose from, especially if your district is politically tilted heavily in favor of one party
Prop 15: No, not real campaign reform.
Prop 16: Yes
Prop 17: Yes, allows auto insurance companies to base their prices in part on a driver’s history of auto insurance coverage. They should be allowed to base their prices on whatever they want, and that means lower prices for those insured
Republican Primary -
Governor: Meg Whitman
Lt. Governor: Sam Aanestad
Sec. of State: Damon Dunn (Orly Taitz is the Queen of the Birthers, and it does Republicans no good to have that in a California election)
Attorney General: John Eastman, former Dean of Chapman Law School, a conservative and originalist constitutional legal scholar, the conservative side of talk show host Hugh Hewitt's “Smart Guys” segment that I have heard many times on the radio
Insurance Commissioner: Brian Fitzgerald
U.S. Senator: Chuck Devore, military reservist, sharply criticized the heckling of Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren at UCI and even asked for UCI to ban the Muslim Student Union
Dem Primary (I will not be voting in these primaries, but here is my take anyway) -
Governor: Do not vote for Jerry Brown
Lt Governor: Eric Korevaar
U.S. Senator: Mickey Kaus
