Biblical Parting Of The Red Sea Possible According To Physical Law
An article appearing on MSNBC's website reports that "Mother Earth could have parted the Red Sea, hatching the great escape described in the biblical book of Exodus, a new study finds. A strong east wind, blowing overnight, could have swept water off a bend where an ancient river is believed to have merged with a coastal lagoon along the Mediterranean Sea, said study team member Carl Drews of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. While archaeologists and Egyptologists have found little evidence that any events described in Exodus actually happened, the study outlines a perfect storm that could have led to the 3,000-year-old escape... Drew and his colleagues used models that showed that a wind of 63 mph (101 kph), lasting for 12 hours, would have pushed back waters estimated to be 6 feet (1.8 meters) deep. This would have exposed mud flats for four hours, creating a dry passage about 2 to 2.5 miles (3.2 to 4 kilometers) long and 3 miles (4.8 km) wide. To match the account in the Bible, the water would have to be pushed back into both the lake and the channel of the river, creating barriers of water on both sides of newly exposed mud flats, which is exactly what the models show could have happened. As soon as the winds stopped, the waters would come rushing back. Anyone still on the mud flats would be at risk of drowning. As the Bible story goes, Moses and the fleeing Israelites were trapped between the Pharaoh's advancing chariots and a body of water that has been variously translated as the Red Sea or the Sea of Reeds. In a divine miracle, a mighty east wind blew all night, splitting the waters and leaving a passage of dry land with walls of water on both sides. The Israelites were able to flee to the other shore. But when the Pharaoh's army attempted to pursue them in the morning, the waters rushed back and drowned the soldiers... A similar phenomenon is found on Lake Erie near Toledo, Ohio, where water will recede several feet when a strong wind blows through, Drews told OurAmazingPlanet. The research shows how strong and persistent winds can affect water depths, and will also help with understanding storm surges, Drews said. By pinpointing a possible site south of the Mediterranean Sea for the crossing, about 75 miles (121 km) north of the Suez reef, where other groups have focused, it also could be of benefit to experts seeking to research whether such an event ever took place. The study is detailed in the online journal PLoS ONE."
What the aforementioned fails to notice is what the Bible itself precisely says about the parting of the Red Sea. Exodus 14:21 explicitly states, "And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord led the sea with the strong east wind all night, and He made the sea into dry land and the waters split." A strong eastern wind as described in the new study is exactly in line with scripture. This finding, therefore, actually serves as evidence for the veracity of scripture. How would ancient human authors know precisely what would be needed physically to split a sea and be sure to include that in the Pentateuch? The fact that the Bible so long ago itself provides an account in line with how a physical parting of the sea would take place lends credence to the idea that such a parting did in fact take place, and that the author of the Exodus may not have been just an ancient Hebrew alone.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Hints That IDF Forces Would Have To Be Present In Parts Of Any Future Palestinian State As Part Of Any Deal
The Jerusalem Post reports that "Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu hinted on Monday that at least some IDF forces would need to be stationed long-term in a future Palestinian state and that this would not detract from the sovereignty of that state. In a conference call with US Jewish leaders sponsored by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Netanyahu said there need not be a conflict between Israeli security needs and Palestinian sovereignty. Germany, Japan and South Korea have had foreign troops on their soil for an extended period and nobody said that was “an affront to their respective sovereignties,” Netanyahu said, referring to US troops that were stationed in those countries following World War II. Netanyahu said he did not believe an international force would be able to provide Israel with the security guarantees it needed, and that 'the only force that can be relied on to defend the Jewish people is the Israel Defense Forces.' Netanyahu has on numerous occasions said that an Israeli presence on the eastern border of a future Palestinian state, meaning along the Jordan River, would be necessary to prevent the type of arms smuggling taking place from Syria to Hizbullah in southern Lebanon, and from Egypt to Hamas in Gaza. The prime minister stressed the need for solid security arrangements on the ground so as not to repeat the mistakes made in Lebanon and Gaza." Tweet

Prop 8 Proponents Eviscerate Judge Walker's Ruling In Opening Brief To 9th Circuit
Law.com reports that "Proposition 8 supporters kicked off their appellate fight to preserve California's gay-marriage ban Friday night with a 31,000-word [113 page] opening brief. hey were up against a midnight deadline to get the brief to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is now set to review the August district court decision that rendered the ban unconstitutional. As expected, proponents made their case for standing and level wide-ranging arguments for upholding the ban, taking particular aim at Chief Judge Vaughn Walker's finding that Prop 8 failed to meet rational basis review.
Here are some of the key excerpts:
1. On the procreative purpose of marriage:
“This is not a hard question, indeed, because of the distinguishing procreative characteristics of heterosexual relationships, until quite recently ‘it was accepted truth for almost everyone who ever lived, in any society in which marriage existed, that there could be marriage only between participants of different sex.’ And marriage has existed in virtually all societies, from the ancients to the American states, because it serves a vital and universal societal purpose – a purpose, indeed, that makes marriage, as the Supreme Court has repeatedly emphasized, ‘fundamental to the very existence and survival of the [human] race.’” “The institution of marriage serves society’s existential interests, in the words of the California Supreme Court, by ‘channel[ing] biological drives that might otherwise become socially destructive’ into enduring marital unions and ‘ensur[ing] that care and education of children in a stable environment.’” Before the recent movement to redefine marriage to include same-sex relationships, it was commonly understood and acknowledged that the institution of marriage owed its very existence to society’s vital interest in responsible procreation and childrearing. Indeed, no other purpose can plausibly explain the ubiquity of the institution. As Bertrand Russell put it: “But for children, there would be no need of any institution concerned with sex...[I]t is through children alone that sexual relations become of importance to society, and worthy to be taken cognizance of by a legal institution.”
2. On the historical recognition of the connection between marriage and procreation:
“And the abiding link between marriage and its procreative and child-rearing purposes has been routinely recognized, without a hint of controversy, not only by the California Supreme Court, as noted above, but repeatedly by state appellate courts addressing the purpose of marriage. Likewise, eminent scholars, past and present, from all relevant academic fields were agreed on the animating purpose of marriage. Blackstone put it well: the ‘relation of parent and child…is consequential to that of marriage, being its principal end and design; it is by virtue of this relations that infants are protected, maintained, and educated.’”
3. On Baker v Nelson, a U.S. Supreme Court case from Minnesota where a gay couple claimed a constitutional right to same-sex marriage:
“The United States Supreme Court dismissed the couple’s appeal for want of a substantial federal question. Not a single Justice found the couple’s constitutional claims – the same ones at issue here – substantial enough even to warrant plenary review. These, too, are not hard questions.”
4. On Walker’s purported findings of “fact”:
“These findings are, we respectfully submit, patently false, and only by assiduously ignoring the ‘history, tradition, and practice of marriage in the United States’ and everywhere else, could the district court make them. Nowhere in his 136-page opinion does the district court even cite any of the evidence overwhelmingly acknowledging responsible procreation and child-rearing as the animating purpose of marriage. All of the evidence – the judicial authority from California and numerous other states, the works of eminent scholars from all relevant academic fields, the extensive historical evidence – is simply ignored. And the district court ignored it quite deliberately; in the court’s view, only oral testimony presented at trial constituted 'evidence' of the issue (and its treatment of even this evidence was egregiously selective and one-sided.)”
5. On Walker’s finding that the People of California acted with animus in adopting Prop 8:
“This charge is false and unfair on its face, and leveling it against the people of California is especially unfounded, for they have enacted into law some of the Nation’s most sweeping and progressive protections of gays and lesbians, including a domestic partnership law that gives same-sex couples all of the same substantive benefits and protections as marriage. And it defames as anti-gay bigots not only the seven million California voters, but everyone else in this Country, and elsewhere, who believes that the traditional opposite-sex definition of marriage continues to meaningfully serve the legitimate interests of society – from the current President of the United States, to a large majority of legislators throughout the nation, both in statehouses and in the United States Congress, and even to most of the scores of state and federal judges who have addressed this issue. The simple truth is that ‘there are millions of Americans’ as one of the Plaintiff’s own expert witnesses has acknowledged, ‘who believe in equal rights for gays and lesbians…but who draw the line at marriage.’”

Jimmy Carter Says He Is The Greatest Ex-President
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
It's good to know that Jimmy Carter knows not to claim he is the greatest President, because even he must recognize his presidency was an abject failure. But as a former President, his record has been equally abysmal. As a former American President, he is the most legitimate voice delivering the most illegitimate arguments against Israel and in favor of the likes of Hamas. He is the useful idiot of the Palestinian-Arab Islamoterrorists.
Here is a lengthy article that helps dispel the repulsive notion that Jimmy Carter is the "superior" ex-President: "Our Worst Ex-President," by Joshua Muravchik, February 5, 2000, http://www.commentarymagazine.com/viewpdf.cfm?article_id=10824.

Female Suicide Bomber Plot To Attack Central Paris Thwarted
The London Evening Standard reports that a "female suicide bomber plotted to blow herself up in Paris last week, French spy agencies have revealed. Intelligence services uncovered and thwarted the threat which was planned for a 'busy part of Paris' on Thursday, RTL radio said. French domestic intelligence chief Bernard Squarcini warned at the weekend that France's burka ban had 'seriously increased' the risk of a major terrorist attack. Mr Squarcini said 'all the red lights were flashing' over the likelihood that Islamist extremists would bomb French cities. Mr Squarcini warned: 'France's role in Afghanistan, its foreign policy and the debate over the law banning the burka have all increased the risk.'"
The alert over the female suicide bomber was revealed to RTL radio on Monday. The station said: “The intelligence service learned last Wednesday night that a female suicide bomber was plotting to commit a terrorist act in a busy part of Paris on Thursday. The intelligence came from agents in Africa and was immediately transmitted to the offices of the president and prime minister. From six in the morning on Thursday the terror alert status was raised and mobile anti-terrorist units began searching for the suspect.”

Helen Thomas Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award From CAIR
The Hill reports that the "longtime White House correspondent who resigned from Hearst newspapers in June in the wake of comments she made about Israel will receive a lifetime achievement award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations. CAIR is honoring Helen Thomas, who is of Lebanese descent and now 90 years old, at its Leadership Conference and 16th Annual Fundraising Banquet on Oct. 9 in Arlington, Va. Speakers will also include Oxford Islamic studies scholar Tariq Ramadan." To learn more about the radical Tariq Ramadan visit http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1884. As the Hill correctly recalls, "Thomas started at the White House as a reporter during the Kennedy administration. In a video interview captured at a White House Jewish heritage event for RabbiLIVE.com that spread quickly across the Internet, Thomas advised Israeli Jews to 'get the hell out of Palestine' and 'go home' to Poland, Germany, America and 'everywhere else.' The White House Correspondents Association and the White House rebuked Thomas, and President Obama said she made the right call in stepping down for the 'offensive' remarks." So it should come as no surprise that the Hamas unindicted co-conspirator that is CAIR would decide to give Helen Thomas a award for lifetime achievement. Tweet
