Deficit Panel Pushes Spending Cuts
The Wall Street Journal reports that a "White House commission laid out a sweeping plan to cut the federal budget deficit by hundreds of billions a year by targeting sacrosanct areas of U.S. tax and spending policy, such as Social Security benefits, middle-class tax breaks and defense spending. Among the controversial proposals, the plan in its current form would end or cap a wide range of breaks relied on by the middle class, including the deduction for home-mortgage interest. It would tax capital gains and dividends at the higher rates now levied on wage income. To compensate, one version of the plan would dramatically lower and simplify individual rates, to 9%, 15% and 24%. For businesses, the plan would significantly lower the corporate tax rate—from a current top rate of 35% to as low as 26%—but also eliminate a number of deductions. It would make permanent the research and development tax credit. Overall, the plan would cut the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion by 2020."

Christian Woman Sentenced To Hang For "Blaspheming" The Prophet Mohammed
The Telegraph reports that "Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother-of-five, denies blasphemy and told investigators that she was being persecuted for her faith in a country where Christians face routine harassment and discrimination. Christian groups and human rights campaigners condemned the verdict and called for the blasphemy laws to be repealed. Her supporters say she will now appeal against the sentence handed down in a local court in the town of Sheikhupura, near Lahore, Pakistan." Tweet
Palestinian Authority Given $150 Million In Aid, Hillary Clinton Bashes Israel For Building In East Jerusalem
Reuters reports that the United States will give an additional $150 million to the Palestinian Authority. Meanwhile, the AP reports that "Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday criticized Israel's latest building plans in east Jerusalem, an issue that has divided the two governments and imperiled efforts to revive Middle East peace talks. Clinton called the proposed construction of 1,300 apartments 'counterproductive' and an obstacle to restarting peace talks with the Palestinians." As Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said, "Jerusalem is not a settlement." This comes after Obama decided to take cheap shots at Israel for construction in East Jerusalem while in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation that does not allow Israeli citizens to visit.
As the Wall Street Journal wrote in an editorial, "Why Mr. Obama chose to pick this fight from the distance of Southeast Asia is anyone's guess. Israel's decision to proceed with the building of some 1,000 housing units in the Har Homa neighborhood of municipal Jerusalem—a 'settlement' only in the most jaundiced sense of the term—was made in October. Israeli governments of both the right and left have encouraged similar building projects since Jerusalem was reunified in 1967. And construction of the new housing will not begin for months if not years... All Israel has done is insist that Jews have a right to live anywhere in their capital city, something that might be controversial in Ramallah but ought not to be in Washington. Mr. Obama's public endorsement of the Palestinian view of what constitutes a settlement only puts the negotiated peace he seeks further out of reach. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government forbids Israeli citizens from visiting their country. If Mr. Obama wants to bridge the distance between Jakarta and Jerusalem, maybe he can start with that one. "

Obama Criticizes Israel In Indonesia
The AP reports that "President Barack Obama has criticized Israel construction plans in East Jerusalem, saying they're unhelpful to the pursuit of peace." Should it come as any surprise that Obama would take cheap shots at Israel while visiting the world's most populous Muslim nation? Given his track record it should come as no surprise at all. Tweet

Israeli PM Netanyahu: “The Greatest Danger Facing The World Is The Prospect Of A Nuclear Iran”
The Jerusalem Post reports that "Iran is the greatest threat to the world, and its nuclear program must be stopped, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said in his keynote address to the Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly in New Orleans on Monday."
“The greatest danger facing the world is the prospect of a nuclear Iran,” he said. “It sponsors terror in Lebanon and Gaza, confronts the US in Iraq and Afghanistan, establishes beachheads in Saudi Arabia. Its influence has spread even to this hemisphere in South America. It has done all this without nuclear weapons. Imagine what it will do with them.” Speaking at the biggest annual Jewish conference in North America, Netanyahu called on the West to take greater measures against Iran, including the possibility of military action, if it wants to prevent nuclear terrorism. “The only time Iran suspended its program was in 2003, when it believed it faced a military action,” he said. “If the world wants to stop Iran without military action, it has to convince them that they are willing to take such action.”

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Declares "Jessica's Law" Restricting Where Sex Offenders Can Live Unconstitutional, Police Chief Opposes Ruling
The Los Angeles Times reports that saying "sex offenders are being forced to choose between prison and homelessness, a Los Angeles judge issued an opinion this week blocking enforcement of provisions a state law restricting how close those offenders can live from parks or schools. Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza issued the 10-page ruling after four registered sex offenders petitioned the court, arguing that the legislation known as Jessica's Law was unconstitutional. He said the court had received about 650 habeas corpus petitions raising similar legal issues, and that hundreds more were being prepared by the public defender's and alternate public defender's offices."
"The court is not a 'potted plant' and need not sit idly by in the face of immediate, ongoing and significant violations of parolee constitutional rights," Espinoza wrote. Espinoza further wrote that "[r]ather than protecting public safety, it appears that the sharp rise in homelessness rates in sex offenders on active parole in Los Angeles County actually undermines public safety. The evidence presented suggests that despite lay belief, a sex offender parolee's residential proximity to a school or park where children regularly gather does not bear on the parolee's likelihood to commit a sexual offense against a child."
The Los Angeles Times further reports that "Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck issued a statement Friday saying he disagrees with a decision by a judge to block enforcement of a major provision of Jessica's Law, which restricts how closely sex offenders can live to schools or parks... The temporary ban led state corrections officials to order parole agents not to enforce Jessica's Law residency requirements in Los Angeles County. More restrictive measures remain in place to regulate 'high-risk' sex offenders whose crimes involve violence or repeated sexual offenses."

Federal Court Blocks Oklahoma Amendment Approved By 70% Of Voters Opposing Islamic Shariah Law
The AP reports that "a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order Monday to block a new amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution that would prohibit state courts from considering international or Islamic law when deciding cases. U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange handed down the order after an Oklahoma man filed a lawsuit claiming the amendment stigmatized his religion and would invalidate his will, which he said is partially based on Islamic Law, also known as Sharia Law... The measure, State Question 755, was approved with 70 percent of the vote in the Nov. 2 general election. The judge's order prevents the state Election Board from certifying the results of that vote, which it had planned to do Tuesday afternoon. The order will remain in effect until a Nov. 22 hearing on a preliminary injunction." Tweet
