House Democrats Vote Down D.C. Late-Term Abortion Ban
The Council of the District of Columbia, employing authority delegated by Congress, repealed the entire D.C. abortion law. Thus, in the nation’s capital, abortion is currently legal for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy.
The bill, sponsored by Congressman Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican, was approved by the House Judiciary Committee In the bill, Congress adopts findings that by 20 weeks after fertilization (if not earlier), the unborn child has the capacity to experience great pain. (This is equivalent to 22 weeks in the alternate “LMP” or “weeks of pregnancy” dating system used by ob-gyns and abortion providers.) The bill prohibits abortion after that point, except when an acute physical condition endangers the life of the mother. Johnson says seven states have already enacted very similar legislation; no court orders have blocked enforcement of any of those laws.

The vote follows a new poll released by the National Right to Life Committee and commissioned by the Polling Company. The poll found 63% of all respondents, and 70% of women respondents, favor banning abortion after the point where the unborn child can feel pain. Another 58% of all respondents, and 62% of women respondents, would be more likely to vote for a Member of Congress who votes to ban abortion after 22 weeks gestation in the District of Columbia.
Chick-fil-A Worker Verbally Assaulted By Gay Marriage Proponent Who Supposedly Hates Hate
He actually lost his job after posting this video:
[H]is employer, Tucson medical equipment manufacturer Vante, saw it differently. Vante has announced that Smith, formerly the chief financial officer and treasurer, no longer works there.
“We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions,” said a statement from the company. “However, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.”

Harry Reid Claims, With No Evidence, That Romney Has Not Paid Taxes In Ten Years
We noted yesterday that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told the Huffington Post that what he claimed was a Bain Capital investor had called him to say Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for ten years – without saying who told him this, or what basis there was for the claim.
Earlier today, he doubled down on the unsubstantiated claim with reporters in Nevada:
“I am not basing this on some figment of my imagination,” Reid said in a telephone call with Nevada reporters. “I have had a number of people tell me that.”
Asked to elaborate on his sources, Reid declined. “No, that’s the best you’re going to get from me.”
“I don’t think the burden should be on me,” Reid said. “The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad: "Strive For The Annihilation Of The Zionist Regime," Jews Running The World For The Past 400 Years
Iranian President Ahmadenijad, August 2, 2012: "Anyone who loves freedom and
justice must strive for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order
to pave the way for world justice and freedom.”
Typically
"freedom and justice" is not the bread to a "strive for the annihilation
of" sandwich. But of course Mahmoud's calls for "annihilation" make
perfect sense given he just informed all of humanity that a "horrible
Zionist current" has been managing world affairs for "about 400 years."

Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day A Major Success
Fox News reports:
It used to be that taking a bite of a chicken sandwich just meant you were hungry. Now it has become a symbol of whether you stand for or against same-sex marriage, or – alternately – the right to express your personal views without fear of retaliation. At Chick-fil-A locations across the country, people voted with their wallets today, coming out to express support for the fast-food chain after CEO Dan Cathy said in an interview that he is a firm backer of traditional marriage.Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/01/chick-fil-appreciation-day-brings-out-supporters-more-protestors/#ixzz22M3HWE62 Tweet

Obama Position On Jerusalem Same As China: China Slams Romney For Declaring Jerusalem Capital Of Israel
China’s official press agency slammed Mitt Romney for asserting that Israel’s capital is Jerusalem, saying his remarks “totally neglect historical facts” and could even “reignite” a war with Palestinians. “U.S.
presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s statement that Jerusalem is the
capital of Israel is likely to worsen the already tense Mideast
situation, and even reignite a war between Palestinians and Israelis. Romney’s remarks totally neglect historical facts and are actually irresponsible if he just meant to appeal to voters at home,”
the Xinhua news agency wrote in an editorial Tuesday. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0712/79207.html#ixzz22GAWjrlY for more on this story.
Ted Cruz Becomes Republican Candidate For Senate -- To Become Texas's New Tea Party Senator
A massive upset for the establishment:
Former state solicitor general Ted Cruz, a tea party-aligned conservative once regarded as a long-shot candidate, has won the Republican runoff in Texas, where he will be the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate in the November election. The Associated Press has called the race for Cruz over Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Cruz will be a heavy favorite over Democratic nominee Paul Sadler, who also won a runoff on Tuesday. Cruz, an emerging conservative star whose father emigrated to the United States from Cuba, has drawn comparisons to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and has been lauded by national conservative political pundits and groups for over a year. His victory is a major blow to the Republican establishment in Texas, which lined up squarely behind Dewhurst. It’s also a victory for the tea party and national conservatives who lined up behind Cruz even when a surprise win appeared unlikely. Cruz’s win is a remarkable political feat and arguably the Senate upset of the cycle.Tweet
White House Spokesman Apologizes To Charles Krauthammer For Calling Him A Liar Over Churchill Bust
The White House posted the letter:
Charles,
I take your criticism seriously and you are correct that you are owed an apology. There was clearly an internal confusion about the two busts and there was no intention to deceive. I clearly overshot the runway in my post. The point I was trying to make – under the belief that the Bust in the residence was the one previously in the Oval Office– was that this oft repeated talking point about the bust being a symbol of President Obama’s failure to appreciate the special relationship is false. The bust that was returned was returned as a matter of course with all the other artwork that had been loaned to President Bush for display in his Oval Office and not something that President Obama or his Administration chose to do. I still think this is an important point and one I wish I had communicated better.
A better understanding of the facts on my part and a couple of deep breaths at the outset would have prevented this situation. Having said all that, barring a miracle comeback from the Phillies I would like to see the Nats win a world series even if it comes after my apology
Thanks,
Dan Pfeiffer

DC Judge Rules Obama's Political Appointees Interfered With New Black Panther Case
The Washington Examiner reports:
The ruling came as part of a motion by the conservative legal watch dog group Judicial Watch, who had sued the DOJ in federal court to enforce a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents pertaining to the the New Black Panthers case. Judicial Watch had secured many previously unavailable documents through their suit against DOJ and were now suing for attorneys’ fees.Tweet
From the judge: The documents reveal that political appointees within DOJ were conferring about the status and resolution of the New Black Panther Party case in the days preceding the DOJ’s dismissal of claims in that case, which would appear to contradict Assistant Attorney General Perez’s testimony that political leadership was not involved in that decision. Surely the public has an interest in documents that cast doubt on the accuracy of government officials’ representations regarding the possible politicization of agency decision-making.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu: Obama’s Sanctions Haven’t Hindered Iran By “One Iota”
Speaking alongside Mitt Romney, via BuzzFeed:
“I think it’s important to do everything in our power to prevent the Ayatollahs from possessing that capability,” Netanyahu said. “We have to be honest and say that all the sanctions and diplomacy so far have not set back the Iranian program by one iota. And that’s why I believe that we need a strong and credible military threat coupled with the sanctions to have a chance to change that situation.”Tweet
Mitt Romney Visits Western Wall In Jerusalem: "I Feel The Pain Of The Destruction Undergone By The Jewish People"
Israel National News reports on some of the context behind the day Romney visited the sacred site:
The visit took place during the fast of Tisha B'Av, in which Jews mourn the loss of the Temples, as well as the many troubles and afflictions that the Jewish nation suffered during the centuries of Diaspora.
Romney said that "In this sacred spot and on this special day, I have gotten to know more about the history of the Jewish people, and I feel the pain of the destruction undergone by the Jewish people – the special nation as it was in the past – and I pray and hope for peace for the nation of Israel and the entire world."
Accompanied by Kotel Rabbi Rav Shmuel Rabinovich, Romney then recited Psalm 121:
A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from G-d, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. G-d watches over you— G-d is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. G-d will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; G-d will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.Romney then placed a note between the stones of the Kotel. The Republican candidate, who is running neck-and-neck with President Barack Obama in the polls, said that he has visited the Kotel tunnel in the past and knows the history of the spot. His wife, Ann, joined the visit and noted that she chose to fast on this day, and avoided wearing leather shoes, thus following Jewish tradition for this day. Tweet
